9 Lies to Unlearn Before its Too Late

It’s not your work to make anything happen. It’s your work to dream it and let it happen. Law of Attraction will make it happen. In your joy, you create something, and then you maintain your vibrational harmony with it, and the Universe must find a way to bring it about. 9 Lies to Unlearn Before it’s Too Late

The worst lies are the ones you tell yourself over and over again – the ones you live by.  Perhaps someone close to you ingrained these lies in your mind, perhaps you were influenced by the negativity of popular media channels, or perhaps they grew from simple, innocent misunderstandings.

Either way, next time you decide to learn something new for the sake of self-improvement, start by unlearning a lie that has been deceiving you.  Here are nine lies I have unlearned in my own life:

1.  Happiness is about getting what you want.

There are two ways people try to find happiness.  One is to continue to accumulate more and more of what they think they want.  The other is to appreciate what they already have.  The latter is the right path.  Happiness isn’t about getting what you want; it’s about wanting what you’ve got.  Happiness is not a goal, it’s a by-product of living well in each moment.

To be happy doesn’t mean you don’t desire more, it simply means you’re thankful for what you have and patient for what’s yet to come.  Sometimes it’s easy to get so caught up in trying to accomplish something big, that you fail to notice the little things that give life its magic.  So appreciate today for all it’s worth.  Today is one of the good old days you’re going to miss in the years ahead.

2.  Success looks a certain way.

You are not in this world to live up to everyone else’s expectations, nor should you feel that everyone else is here to live up to yours.  You’ve got to pave your own distinct path.  What success means to each of us is different.  It’s about spending your life happily in your own way.

You have your own personal calling that’s as unique as your fingerprints.  The best way to succeed is to discover this calling within you and then find a way to offer it to the world in the form of a beneficial service.  Ultimately, if you can wake up every morning and do something that makes a positive difference, makes you proud, and makes you smile, before you get back to bed, you are a true success.  (Angel and I discuss this process in the Success and Passion chapters of 1,000 Little Things Happy, Successful People Do Differently.)

3.  A busy day is a productive day.

“Work smarter, not harder” is one of the most common clichés in the personal development space.  But like most clichés, few people actually do it.  Go ahead and take a look around; the busy people outnumber the productive people by a wide margin.  Perhaps you’re one of them.

Busyness seems impressive.  It puts you in the heat of the action.  It gives you an elevated sense of accomplishment.  You’re always late for social engagements, barely have enough time for family get-togethers, and hardly get a moment to yourself.  Emails and texts are shooting out of your smartphone like machinegun bullets, commitments and meetings fill up your entire calendar, and sleep is an afterthought.  You’re like a rock star without a record.

Of course, it’s all just an illusion.  A commitment to anything more than the essential is to work harder, not smarter.  So flip it around and work smarter by putting first things first.

4.  To be brave is to not be afraid.

Truth be told, the only time you can be brave is when you are afraid.

Being brave is when you do something, regardless of your fears, because you know it’s the right thing to do.  In other words, you are afraid to do it because there are unknowns, but then you go ahead and do it anyway.

Whatever course you decide upon in life, there is always the possibility that something will go wrong.  There will always be difficulties arising that tempt you to fear that you don’t have what it takes.  To map out any course of action and follow it to an end requires bravery.  (Read Feel the Fear and Do It Anyway.)

5.  To be strong is to not feel pain.

Life is often painful.  It requires a worthy struggle for growth and experience.  Anyone who says differently is selling a lie.

The strongest people are the ones who feel pain, accept it, learn from it, and fight through it.  They turn their wounds into wisdom.  It’s all about having the courage to take a break, to shed a tear, to dust yourself off, and then to get back in the ring to fight like you’ve never fought before.

6.  Everyone around you is holding you back.

Many of us don’t genuinely want to be responsible for our own fate.  Perhaps we daydream about “fulfilling our dreams,” but we leave those dreams firmly in the realm of fantasy.  We don’t research them, talk to people about them, read related books, etc.  Somehow we prefer the fantasy to the reality.  And there’s nothing wrong with that, until we say that someone else is “holding us back”.  That turns an idle fantasy into a barricade of lies.

The truth is, if you’re not working on something meaningful today, the only person holding you back is YOU.  If you aren’t doing anything about your goals and dreams, you have no one to blame except yourself.  Either you take responsibility for your life or someone else will.  Blame is a scapegoat – it’s an easy way out of taking accountability for your own outcome.  It’s a lot easier to point the finger at someone or something else instead of looking within.

When it comes to working hard to achieve a goal or dream – earning a degree, building a business, or any other personal achievement that takes time and commitment – one thing you have to ask yourself is:  “Am I willing to live a few years of my life like many people won’t, so I can spend the rest of my life like many people can’t?”

7.  You are automatically entitled to certain things from others.

People are sometimes led to have a sense of entitlement because they falsely believe they are owed something based on the social role they have chosen.  For example, if someone has accepted the role of being someone’s friend, boyfriend, girlfriend, husband or wife, they feel entitled to get certain favours from the other person.  If someone has accepted the role of being a parent, they feel entitled to being respected by their children.  If someone has accepted the role of being a consumer, they feel entitled to be served to their specific wishes.

Of course, these expectations of entitlement often go unfulfilled.  Why?  Because nothing in this world is promised.  Regardless of your chosen role in all your relationships and walks of life, you don’t automatically get any more than you openly communicate, negotiate, and work for.  (Read The Road Less Traveled.)

8.  You will feel comfortable when the time is right.

So many of us complain about the boring repetition present in our daily routines, yet we choose no clear course for correction.  We want to change something, but we never think the time is right.  Why?  Because the very source of our boredom also provides a solid foundation of comfort.  We are comfortable with our current surroundings.  Steering off the known track is risky, and we are subconsciously scared of what might happen if we do.

So, what happens when we stick to the current track?  Nothing.  We jog along the same circular track at a steady pace daily.  We pass by the same mile marker at the exact moment we did yesterday, and the day before, and the week before that.  There is not a worry on our minds because we already know the terrain that lies ahead.

If something makes you a bit nervous and uncomfortable, it means you’re doing it right and growing.  All great opportunities in life will force you to grow emotionally and intellectually.  They force you to stretch yourself and your comfort zone, which means you won’t feel totally comfortable at first.  And when you don’t feel comfortable, you will likely assume the timing isn’t right, even though it is.

9.  It’s already too late.

Nothing is too late until your tired heart stops beating.

If you’re reading this right now, congratulations, you are alive, which means it’s not too late for you.

Things can change if you want them to, at any age.  Right now you can choose differently and make something new happen.  Your future is immediate.  Grab on to it with both hands and keep on moving on.  When you come up on a roadblock and are faced with the choice of sitting down and doing nothing or doing something to make further progress, choose the latter.  Think, work, and climb if you have to.

Move your life forward.

The floor is yours…

What self-defeating lies do people often tell themselves?  What’s one self-defeating lie you once believed was true?

Giving opens up the door to receiving. You have so many opportunities to give every day.

Give kind words. Give a smile. Give appreciation and love. Give compliments. You can give courtesy to other motorists while you are driving. You can give a smile to the car parking attendant. You can give a warm greeting to the newspaper stand person or the person who makes your coffee. You can give by allowing a stranger to go ahead of you into an elevator, and you can give by asking which floor they are going to and pressing the button for them. If someone drops something you can give a helping hand and pick it up for them. You can give warm embraces to those you love. And you can give appreciation and encouragement to everyone. There are so many opportunities for you to give and thereby open the door to receiving.  May the joy be with you, Rhonda Byrne

22 Tips for Becoming the Best You

If I could share 500 words to inspire, this is the important wisdom I’d want to pass along to others…

Don’t focus on being happy, focus on being busy – so busy with work and people you love that you don’t have time to ask yourself if you’re happy.

Find what you love doing, and then do it. Or if you can’t do that, learn to love what you have to do.

Meditate or learn to be alone with your thoughts for a few minutes a day.

Be yourself, but strive to be the best version of yourself.

Read at least one non-fiction book per month.

Learn as many general skills as you can (specific computer software, building/repairing things, writing clearly, etc.). It will help you with whatever specific path you choose to follow.

Persevere. Believe in yourself. But still make some adjustments based on people’s response (or there lack of).

Once your hobby becomes your job, get a new hobby.

Don’t take the highest paying job. Take the highest learning job.

Your default should be to be nice to people. Or at least polite. It doesn’t take much effort and people remember insults much longer than compliments.

Accept people as they are; don’t anticipate that they will ever change to how you want them to be. And if they do change for the better, it’s a bonus. You can’t change someone who doesn’t want to change.

Stop thinking about doing something, and just start doing it. Eventually you’ll get better.

The only company that might support you for your entire career is the one you create.

Create your own work. Don’t wait around for permission.

Take pride in whatever work you do, and do it to the best of your ability, even if you don’t like doing it. If you do work you dislike well enough, eventually you’ll get to do work you like.

Don’t only focus on work.

Being rejected only hurts if it’s not constant. Be rejected constantly and eventually you only notice the times people say “Yes.”

Trust your instincts, but also hone your instincts.

If someone tells you they’ll do something by a certain date, and they don’t do it and don’t warn you that they won’t be done, they are not reliable. Continue working with them at your own peril.

Be friends and work with people who you think are smarter and more talented than you.

Marriage occurs when both people believe that the other person is out of their league. Usually one of them will be proven correct.

Do. Review and improve. Do again. Repeat until you’re #1.

To achieve great things requires no great effort, just a modest effort repeated again and again. Start right now by improving one little corner and you’re on your way to change the world.

Are You Selling The WRONG Opportunity.

If you want to attract a better job or anything better than what you currently have, it is important to understand how the law of attraction works.  You know that to bring in something better you must imagine what that better thing looks like in your mind, and then live in that picture as though it is here now. But you should also know that if you complain about your current job, for example, and continue to focus on all the negative things, you will never bring the better job to you. You must look for the things to be grateful for in your current job. Each thing you find to be grateful for is helping to bring that better job to you. That is really working the law!                    May the joy be with you, Rhonda Byrne The Secret… bringing joy to billions

Here’s a little question to think about.

Are you selling the WRONG business opportunity?

“Due diligence” on any company is the key, search and seek help advice or more information on Network marketing Opportunities, thus ensuring you have the right information on what you are looking for then seek a person in that business.

What’s the first thought that just popped into your mind?

For most people I bet it’s either the company or their products, or services.

And how “GOOD” they are. How they help people do what is required to succeed.

Of course how incredible their “system” is… the override structure, the “unique” builder bonuses and back up. Right?

After all isn’t that why you decided to join the business you’re in, or looking at  because of how unique this company is and how different this particular opportunity is?  That is what most people sell and to be honest the majority do succeed…

The reason why Most people struggle to Sponsor a Large Number Of People is  not because of the product (which is an on-going type of business expecting people to keep buying) or service based businesses but because of the attitude and willingness to help and provide those looking for something better than the “JOB”  Offering a life one can only dream about, until now!

what is it that get people really excited.? I can GUARANTEE that people  join your business for a much different reasons, There Own!  And why Not!

Oh sure it’s important to feel good about what you do in your business and I’m certain you believe 100% in the opportunity… But those are the supporting reasons behind your decision.

The REAL reason behind why you do what you do… and it’s the same reason why others will join you… which is actually the “same reason EVERYONE buys anything… “

… it’s to make themselves feel BETTER about themselves and why not!

Every buying decision (and recruiting someone is a sales process… they need to BUY INTO what you do)… is an emotional one. If you are not concerned about what others desire want or need, you are not doing your job to be the best at “Network Marketing.”

We can come up with dozens of reasons WHY people buy… but if we boil it all down to one thing, it’s to… … FEEL BETTER ABOUT OURSELVES. Why not!

The house we live in, the car we drive, the clothes we wear, the TV in your house, the furniture, the colour of paint you chose for your walls… EVERYTHING has an emotional reason attached to it.

So knowing this let’s back up and think when talking to someone about your business… is it the “life changing” product or a “unique” compensation plan or the vision of a founder is what REALLY going to get someone to move? Not necessarily but how good the company is and the: training and back up provided does offer a guarantee of support which should be on going.

What will get people to move are their own personal desires and reasons.

Here are 7 motivators we ALL have, in no particular order:

1. Money
2. Security
3. Recognition
4. Achievement
5. Love of Family
6. Acceptance of Others
7. Self-Acceptance

They are running automatically in the background and WHEN we make buying decisions it’s for one or more of these reasons.

Now they all can be tied back to making us feel good about ourselves.

When you’re loved by your family… accepted by others… have money… recognized or appreciated…. all of it makes us feel good, right?

So when others are considering joining your business and you speak to them about things which do not satisfy these… things that are IMPORTANT TO THEM… you have NO CHANCE of getting them to join. That is the reason why you should be providing all information on the company and services so they can see what you have to offer, But only if you seek what it is that they desire from your business by asking them.. It is that simple.

If all you talk to them about is money… you may temporarily appeal to their GREED, but it won’t last unless you can grab them emotionally with their REAL reason(s).  When they can see themselves getting what THEY want as a result of associating with you… that’s when you got them.

Which is why it’s important to ask questions, and pay close attention to what they tell you.  People will usually tell you what they need for you to recruit them.

A good question to ask people, and it’s a general one, but it does wonders in terms of digging DEEP to discover their REAL MOTIVATOR, and it’s….

Not What is Important To You but to the person or people that you are offering the business too.

When they indicate they want to make more money, pretty much everyone says that… you have to find out WHY it is important to them to make more money, if you wish them to succeed as well as you have.

Think about it, if they really wanted to make more money, if that was their only motivator… then why have they not got the money desire yet?

I think often people don’t really know what they want… so they say they want bigger house, car, more money… but it’s really what all these things will do for them… how they will make them feel.

I can tell you a lot of the leaders in Network Marketing are driven by praise and recognition, for the company and those in the business thus helping them move on to better things, the money does help no matter who you are.

People will do incredible things to get recognized and feel appreciated, I do not know of any person whom does not desire these things . something we all crave for in life, from family to the job, it is a human desire and we area all worthy of these desires.

We all like being special people, with our children, family and friend’s, someone  that they all would be proud of… providing lots of security… these things drive us and when you can appeal to them in your recruiting… it will dwarf anything else and will become the dominant reason people will flock to YOU and join YOU.

So if you find you are not sponsoring as many people as you’d like, yet you feel like you are doing everything else right… it just might be that you are selling the WRONG thing.

And a little change in your approach to focus on THEM… THEIR GOALS, DREAMS and MOTIVATIONS…

… just might do the trick.

Act on your own initiative, but be prepared to assume full responsibility for your acts.
One of the primary differences between those who achieve greatness in their lives and those who manage only to “get by” is that successful people learned early in life that they were responsible for their own actions. No other person can make you successful or keep you from achieving your goals. Taking the initiative means assuming a leadership role, a position that singles you out for praise — and for criticism. The good leader is the one who shares the credit for success with others and assumes full responsibility for failures or temporary setbacks. When you accept responsibility for your actions, you gain the respect of others and are well on the way to creating your own future. – Napoleon Hill

How to Embrace the Holy Mess Of Your Life

Mary O'MalleyI have had a plaque on my fireplace for a long time by artist Kelly Rae Roberts which says, “Kindness Changes Everything”. A friend of mine recently sent me another one of Kelly Rae’s inspirational quotes, “Embrace the imperfections, the chaos, the HOLY MESS of your BEAUTIFUL life”.  I love both of these sayings because they are all about the heart. While most people try to get rid of the uncomfortable stuff in their lives, true healing is about allowing our imperfections and chaos to float into our hearts. How do we do this? By embracing it all with kindness.

Holy Mess Kelly Rae RobertsCarl Jung, the famous Swiss psychiatrist and psychotherapist, was one of the first people who said a human being is a community. Within this community, we have parts that we like, and then we have the parts we don’t like. The parts we don’t like I call spells, such as fear, despair, anger, sadness, and grief. And in our community, the unlikable parts are at war with one another or we are at war with them. We try to hold onto the parts we think are okay, and push away the parts we don’t like. And this is true suffering. Let’s say you don’t like a body part, such as your thumb.  Maybe you don’t like the size or shape of your thumb. Would cutting it off make you happier? Of course not, and you certainly would be able to do a lot less. This is what we do in life. We cut this out and that out, trying to get to a better state, but it is an endless game.

True healing is about turning toward and making space for whatever is showing up in our lives. It is about befriending, keeping company with, allowing, honouring, respecting, acknowledging, and developing a relationship with all of these parts we don’t like or what Kelly Rae calls “the holy mess.” It is about noticing what is here right now when the mind goes into its struggle mode and tightens our bodies.

When this happens to me, I touch it with my heart by first asking, “Okay, what is it that you don’t want to explore in this moment?” and then I say to the scared one inside of me, “Oh this is what life is offering. This is what is passing through right now. No need to push it away, you belong here.”

I have a new mantra that helps me bring kindness into my heart, “Striving…Arriving.” I say “Striving” on the in-breath and then on a long, slow, out-breath, I say “Arriving.” Striving is the mind that is busy liking, disliking, and turning life into a problem. It has spent its whole life trying to manage this and that, and it is always fixing, changing, or rearranging everything it doesn’t like. I don’t judge this busy mind or try to make it bad or wrong for striving because this is what it learned to do when it was very young. We have given our minds a task that it was never meant to do, and that is, being in charge of life. But, the mind is not in charge. Life is in charge of Life and what it is offering is trustable (but not always likable). Most people don’t truly experience Life because they are too busy trying to control it.

The second part of the mantra, “Arriving,” is about being open to life. Arriving is what we long for. How do we arrive? By getting to know the fear-based mind and by showing it kindness and compassion. My practice of “Arriving” is about acknowledging the waves of sadness, grief, pain and anger that are passing through. I do this by talking to my scared one, or rubbing my heart, or just acknowledging that my scared one is here by saying, “I see you.” By giving her the attention and love she so desperately needs, I have fallen more in love with this crazy, neurotic, easily-overwhelmed, separate mess of a self than I ever have been.  When I touch her with my heart, she just lets go and relaxes back into life.

What would happen if, when your mind gets activated and your body is tight, you really knew that it is safe to let go into the process?  The next time you feel this way, make some time to become quiet and start to get to know your sacred mess, your beautiful mess, your holy mess. Do it all with kindness. Then, let go and let life. Notice how you feel afterward.
