Forgiveness by Seth Godin

PMA Added…  Wise Words  “Even though you may want to move forward in your life, you may have one foot on the brakes. In order to be free, we must learn how to let go. Release the hurt. Release the fear. Refuse to entertain your old pain. The energy it takes to hang onto the past is holding you back from a new life. What is it you would let go of today?” -Mary Manin Morrissey,

Has anyone ever said or done anything unforgiveable to you?  Something so awful you know you can never forgive them?

Probably this strikes a bell with most of my readers.  It would certainly be rare to find someone who has never been mistreated, never misunderstood, never abused in one way or another.  In some cases the abuse may have been particularly nasty.  Something you would much rather forget, but find you cannot.

Does this person deserve your forgiveness?  Probably not.  Should you forgive them?  Absolutely!

Why do I say this?  If they don’t deserve your forgiveness, why should you forgive them?  Am I trying to turn you into a saint or something?

No.  I am not saying this to make you a "goody goody".  And I am certainly not suggesting you should allow anyone to take advantage of you.  So why I am saying it?

The reason is that I believe you deserve to be free.  You deserve to be happy.  You deserve to be able to do whatever you wish in life and not be weighed down carrying a load dumped on you by someone else.

If there is anyone you have not forgiven for what they have done or said to you this means you are allowing that person to control your life.  You are giving them the ultimate victory over you.  Is that what you want?  If not, you simply have to find a way to forgive them.

Some of you may now be saying "it’s all very well for you to say that, but you don’t know how I have suffered!  You cannot understand just how bad this was!"

I agree I cannot know what it is like to suffer in the way you may have suffered.  To use a common Christian saying, we each have our own cross to bear.  The one you are bearing may be far heavier than mine.  But even though I cannot understand just how bad it was for you, what I do understand is that you are now carrying an unnecessary burden.  Just like "Christian" in John Bunyan’s "Pilgrim’s Progress".  Christian was carrying a burden so heavy he could hardly move.  So are you if there is someone you have not forgiven.  Your happiness is marred because every so often you think of this unforgiveable thing that was done to you and it spoils what would otherwise be a lovely moment in a lovely day.  Why not simply throw that burden away?  It is not stuck to you with superglue.  You have chosen to carry it.  Now you should choose to throw it away.

There may be others who will say "but there is nobody I haven’t forgiven!  Nobody has done anything particularly bad to me!"  If so, you are very fortunate!  But I would suggest there are probably some slights, some grievances, some humiliations that your conscious mind has forgotten but are still bubbling away somewhere under the surface.  You do not feel desperately unhappy, but because there are some unforgiving words and actions loitering in your unconscious mind what could be a really happy moment is, instead, just mildly pleasant.  These unforgiving things are stopping you reaching your full potential.  They are controlling you.

Would you like to free yourself of this burden?  Great!

The first thing you must do is find all the actions and words you have not yet forgiven.  Some may be easy to find.  Others will be hiding under the surface.  Sit quietly and let them come to you.

Now, for each unforgiving act or word find the person.  Picture that person in your mind.  Say to them "I forgive you".  At first you will probably feel silly. But don’t worry about that.  Nobody is watching you.  Nobody is laughing at you.  This is something you are doing for yourself so you can be happier.

As you do this you will find a part of your mind will tell you that this person does not deserve your forgiveness.  You can immediately dispel that thought by saying "they may not deserve it, but I am forgiving them for me, not for them!"  This other part of your mind may say it was totally wrong of them to do this to you.  Respond by saying "I am not the one who will judge them for it, and I am not asking them or anyone else to do this again to me, I am just letting go so this act no longer controls me.  I forgive!"

If you are a Christian you should remember the phrase in the Lord’s Prayer "Forgive me my wrongdoings as I forgive those who have done wrong to me"?  Whether or not you are a Christian this is a phrase I would like you to remember and use.  When you forgive others you will find that forgiveness of yourself comes quite naturally too.  But give it a helping hand anyway.  Add your own wrongdoings now.  See them clearly and then forgive yourself.  As long as you have forgiven others you should find you are now able to forgive yourself.  When you do you really should find you feel light and buoyant.  You have let go of your burden.

Try to perform this act of forgiveness every day.  I suggest you do it last thing at night before you go to sleep, as you should find your sleep will then be that much more refreshing.  Try it, let go, don’t allow anyone to control you any more and see just how much difference this makes in your life!

Stay true to your deepest intuition that an extraordinary and miraculous life is possible. ~ Craig Hamilton

Today’s Brilliance™

Craig Hamilton

Craig is an inspirational leader in the field of evolutionary spirituality and the founder of Integral Enlightenment.

If I could share 500 words of wisdom to summarize what I’ve learned so far in life, these are the important things I’d want to pass along to others…

In our deepest spiritual moments, we’ve all sensed that an extraordinary transformation is possible—a radical realignment at the deepest levels of our being that would not only liberate us from our personal suffering but would infuse our lives with a sacred, cosmic sense of meaning, purpose and wholeness.

Yet, in the face of life’s challenges, it’s easy to lose touch with this deeper sense of potential, and even begin to doubt that such a lofty possibility really exists.

I want you to know that the highest possibility you’ve glimpsed, the most glorious potential you’ve sensed is not a figment of your imagination but a real possibility. And even more than that is possible.

It is possible for life to make perfect sense. It’s possible for your life to make perfect sense. It’s possible to come into such profound alignment with the moral and spiritual axis of the universe that every moment of your life is a walk in grace, and that you know without any doubt that you are in the right place at the right time. It’s possible for all existential doubt to disappear. It’s possible to live with unwavering conviction in the inherent goodness of life.

It’s possible to awaken so deeply to the divine evolutionary principle at the heart of existence that we know that we are living our lives for the highest purpose there is. And in this knowing, to discover an unimaginable and abiding liberation from the suffering of the confused, neurotic, separate sense of self. It’s possible to be truly free.

I’m speaking about a completely different kind of human life than most of us have ever encountered. This is not simply about "being in the now" or "loving and accepting what is in every moment." It is not about simply accessing a more expansive state of awareness or being able to stand back and abide as the Witness of all that arises. And it’s not just about cultivating a sustained feeling of compassion for the suffering of all beings.

I’m pointing to something more. I’m speaking about the possibility of awakening to our divine nature so fully that we become a superconductor for the creative power of the cosmos, for the evolutionary impulse itself. In this miraculous discovery, our personal need to have and get for ourselves is replaced by a passion to give everything for the greatest good. In this profound alignment with the sacred, the human being becomes a living, breathing force for higher evolution.

Whatever you do and wherever your path takes you, don’t settle for less than this kind of ultimate awakening. Don’t listen to the voice that says that your humanity can’t be transformed into a shining beacon of light and goodness. Stay true to your deepest intuition that an extraordinary and miraculous life is possible. Strive for it. Surrender to it. And don’t ever stop reaching.

The fastest way to become the Master of your thoughts and emotions is through challenging situations. If your life is going along fairly smoothly, there are not the same opportunities that enable you to strengthen your power and become the Master of your thoughts and emotions.  You see, even challenges are beautiful opportunities in disguise.                                                                                                                      May the joy be with you, Rhonda Byrne

If I could share 500 words to inspire, this is the important wisdom I’d want to pass along to others…

by Christian Del RosarioTransformation arises not through ambition or self-will, but amidst our surrender to the One Who holds all things together through His Word. Generally, we don’t take steps toward growth until the pain of staying the same exceeds the pain of change. Only in that place does true surrender begin.

Transformation begins with a decision to forgive and to extend unconditional grace, acceptance, and love to the one who did us harm.

Transformation grows with our decision to believe the best about another, remembering their best qualities, and overlooking their offenses.

Transformation flourishes when we acknowledge we live in the midst of a spiritual battle.

Transformation occurs when we let go of preconceived ideas of what should have been and collectively work toward one another’s best interests, serving one another in all humility.

Transformation begins in our heart and the private meditations of our thoughts. We experience greater joy and fulfilment in our relationships as we train our mind and speech to stop saying harmful words and practice the daily discipline of believing and speaking encouraging words of affirmation.

Transformation begins when we focus on what is essential and intentionally practice the good things we know we should do.

Transformation fails when we seek our own way, fail to take responsibility for our own actions, and selfishly insist on gratifying our own desires. But, when we look to meet our spouse’s needs, and look for opportunities to nurture growth through our affection and affirmation, we invite connection as God intended between spouses.

Transformation requires change. We either move towards growth to reflect more of God, or we become stagnant.

Transformation occurs when we reach forward, commit to dream, and welcome from a distance the hope of our faith. God invites us to believe the best and inspire the best in our spouse. He encourages us to invite Him into our dreams, our imaginations, and our relationships.

Transformation flourishes when we seek to promote another’s happiness over our own.

Transformation occurs when we look inward and decide, “What’s my part? How can I help? How do I need to change?”

Transformation takes place within our own heart, individually. We cannot change another person. We are responsible for our own life and actions.

Transformation takes time. It requires my concentrated attention and intentional actions. It is a result of an on going process; it’s more than an event.

Transformation occurs when we fully realize God loves us passionately and designed us on purpose for a purpose.

Transformation requires letting go of offenses and extending forgiveness.

Transformation believes and brings out the best in others.

Transformation applies knowledge with action.

Transformation requires intentionality and applied action, consistently.

Transformation is a journey toward becoming our greatest potential.

From The Secret Daily Teachings

Most people don’t realize how much passion they put into what they don’t want. When you speak to a friend and you tell them all about an "awful" situation, you are putting passion into what you don’t want. When you react to an event negatively, with the response that it is "terrible", you are putting passion into what you don’t want. You are a beautiful passionate being, so make sure you direct your passion wisely.

Wise Words  “There are those of us who are always about to live. We are waiting until things change, until there is more time, until we are less tired, until we get a promotion, until we settle down – until, until, until. It always seems as if there is some major event that must occur in our lives before we begin living.” -George Sheehan

Any message of honesty trust and faith is a wonderful thing to receive, but you have to be listening.

Nurture your mind with great thoughtsA subliminal message is a message that passes under the radar.  It is not intercepted en route by your conscious mind.  To use Freudian terminology, it avoids the super-ego, which might otherwise criticise or reject it.  Think of that super-ego as the little voice that keeps telling you things like “it won’t work!”, “you shouldn’t do it!”, “there are too many problems!”, “yes, but …” etc.  If you can get the message in without allowing that voice to intercept it you have a much greater chance of succeeding.

Many people get quite nervous about the idea of subliminal messaging.  They imagine all kinds of instructions going into their unconscious mind and then making them do things they have not chosen to do.  They see it as something that could counter their free will.

It is important to remember that it is your thoughts and feelings together that create with the law of attraction, and you cannot separate them. Also remember that it’s your feelings that are summing up your overall frequency and telling you what you are creating in this moment. So how are you feeling right now? Could you feel better? Well then, do what it takes right now to feel better.

Rhonda Byrne

The reality, however, is quite different.  Research at the University of Warwick over 10 years ago showed that although subliminal messaging can influence your decisions and actions, it cannot do so in a way which is counter to your original intention.

This not only means you may need to re-evaluate your view on the “dangers” of subliminal messaging, but also need to think very carefully about how you are using it.  If you are using subliminal messaging as a part of your personal development programme you cannot simply set up your subliminal software or listen to some music with underlying subliminal messages and expect this to work immediate powerful changes.  Before you start trying to work subliminally you must first work on a conscious level.

For example, if you listen to a subliminal mp3 designed to make you give up smoking but have not made a conscious decision that you want to give up smoking, that mp3 is not going to be much help.  Make the conscious decision first, though, and if it is well produced it can be very powerful indeed.

Every brain is both a broadcasting station and a receiving station for the vibrations of thought.                                                                     Whatever the actual science of thought transmissions may be, it is true that if you wish to receive the power contained in the thoughts of others, you must condition your mind to receive those ideas. Listening helps condition your mind to receive valuable information contained in the thoughts of others. Set aside any preconceived notions you may have about the topic, and listen attentively and non-judgmental to what is being said. Focus on the information, not on the speaker. Try to identify key concepts behind the speaker’s words. Train your mind to identify and absorb information that others often miss because their “receivers” are not tuned to the proper frequency. – Napoleon Hill

Hands reaching for a globeMany people leave out this important step, and then wonder why the change is not happening.  Do not fall into this trap.  Decide first on what changes you wish to make.  Don’t worry about how you are going to make them or even whether or not you believe they are possible, as if you start doing that you will be inviting your super-ego to sabotage your efforts.  Just decide exactly what it is you want to happen.  Once you have done this, use subliminal techniques to start the inner change process.

Promotion ladder to the skyYou can use subliminal messaging to achieve a very wide range of goals.  These include improving your ability to study, improving your memory, quitting bad habits such as smoking, etc.  It is by no means the “be all and end all” of personal development, but if you include it in an overall programme for change you should find it a great deal of help.

Life how you make it so make it; Grand, Magical, Full of Hope and Possibilities.  The choice is yours..

Chose your side of both wheels in lifeHowever, sometimes it’s hard to see how lucky and fortunate we are to be here. We get so caught up in our daily stresses that we completely forget how awe-inspiring and miraculous living really is. We go through the motions, get in a rut and are busy putting out one fire after the next in an attempt to keep our lives in balance.

Yet, drama happens all the time.

All enduring success is founded upon harmonious human relationships.
Most of us are incapable of “going it alone.” Whether it is in our careers, our personal relationships, or in life, we all need others if we are to achieve the level of success we desire. Besides, what’s the point of having it all if we have no one we care about to share it? You may choose to work with others, you may ignore them, or you may choose to work against them, but the greatest successes in life come to those who work harmoniously with others. When your personal goals coincide with those of another, not only does the power of your combined labours benefit you, but such cooperation also creates a synergistic effect that allows you to achieve far more than the simple sum of your individual efforts. Know that friendship freely given and gratefully received is one of life’s greatest gifts. – Napoleon Hill

Our projects don’t work out, our businesses aren’t going the way we had hoped for, our relationships experience troubles, the economy is bad, politicians let us down and life is just not the way it’s supposed to be.

"My philosophy of life is that if we make up our mind what we are going to make of our lives, then work hard toward that goal, we never lose – somehow we win out." Ronald Reagan 40th President of the United States

It’s easy then to get sucked into a spiral of self-doubt and weariness. It’s easy to loose hope, feel listless and ready to just give up.

No matter how long you have had it you still start from scratchSpeaking from experience, I know how destructive these feelings can be and how easily they overshadow your entire world. But if you take a moment to breathe, open your eyes and see, just see, all the marvels of this world, it’s hard not to be speechless, feel grateful and happy to be alive.
