4 Foundational Principles for Harmony in Your Home

I wish that someone had given me a blueprint for leading my best life years ago. I am thankful that I can share my more than 20 years of academic and experiential insights with you to help you design your own inspired life.

Practicing the Home in Harmony lifestyle guided me to a healthy, vibrant, and joyful existence. Although my life has had its share of trials, I am grateful for the journey—which has also been filled with glorious moments that have left me in awe. Each moment, good or bad, has brought me to where I am today. Collectively, these moments have given me the experience, training, and expertise to teach this amazing lifestyle to you.

The foundation of designing an inspired, healthy and vibrant home, body, mind and spirit is intended to help you define and navigate your own sacred path. Let’s look at these four foundational pillars:

1. Home: Our home environments either nurture us or drain our energy. You either walk into your home and say “Thank goodness I’m home,” or you look at the stack of clutter on the table and feel defeat.

2. Body: There is an old saying that goes something like this: “If you don’t have your health, you don’t have anything.” Our health affects every other area of our life. It’s important to create a body that exudes energy, good health, and vitality.

3. Mind: It’s important in our fast-paced world to find the calm in the midst of chaos. Gaining a clear mind is critical to living your best life.

4. Soul: Studies have shown that a vital component to finding bliss and inner harmony is to find your purpose in life and share it with the world.

When I step back and look at my life, I see a rich, luxurious tapestry woven from a vibrant array of colourful threads. At this distance, a beautiful pattern emerges. But my individual life experiences—the separate strands within the tapestry—didn’t make sense at first, because they were so varied. Similarly, the individual pillars of the Home in Harmony have significance on their own—but together they create a truly inspired life.

The four foundational pillars of the Home in Harmony can help you design the magnificent tapestry of your life. This is a template for extraordinary and inspired living. I encourage you to utilize its four pillars as the structure for a beautifully designed life.

Time and again we hear stories about ordinary people who do seemingly impossible things when they find themselves in an emergency situation. They perform herculean feats of strength and endurance, things they never dreamed they were capable of doing. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if you could harness that strength and make it available anytime you need it? You can — if you believe you can. No doubt you can remember a time in your life when you were exceptionally focused on your objective, a time when you achieved more in less time than ever before. Perhaps it was an impending vacation that motivated you to get everything done before you departed, or perhaps it was a “must pass” exam that helped you focus your concentration. Many people live each day just like the text in the first box. They rush from one task to the next without even a short pause to prepare the mind for the next activity. This has the cumulative effect of creating a loss of clear focus, decreasing efficiency and increasing stress as the day progresses.

2. Setting Personal Goals

Without personal goals life can be an aimless journey lacking positive direction and achievement. If your life is to follow a Positive Path you need a plan, and to establish a plan personal goals are necessary.

Before you start setting your personal goals you need to consider what you want to achieve with your life. One mistake many people make is that their personal goals just relate to career pursuits rather than to all the important areas of life. This can lead to an unbalanced existence.

build blocks goalsTo focus your personal goal setting on the various areas in your life, consider setting goals in each of the following categories. They are listed in alphabetical order for convenience, however where each goal category is ranked in importance is really up to the individual.

  • Career
    What is your chosen vocation? What level do you want to reach in your career, and by when?
  • Community Service
    Do you want to help make the world a better place? If so, how?
  • Creative
    Do you want to achieve any creative goals? If so, in what artistic pursuit?
  • Education
    Is there any knowledge you want to acquire in particular? What information and skills will you need to achieve your other goals?
  • Family
    Do you want to be a life partner and parent? If so, how are you going to do this well? What kind of relationship do you want with your partner, your children and other family members?
  • Financial
    How much money do you want to earn at various stages of your life? What planning is required in order to accumulate wealth, use it wisely and share the benefits with those you choose?
  • Physical
    Are there any fitness and sporting goals you want to achieve? What steps are you going to take to achieve this?
  • Recreation
    How do you want to enjoy yourself? Are there any interests, hobbies, pastimes or social activities in which you want to be involved?

Write down your goals in each of your categories and consider them carefully. Are4 men going up stairs they realistic? What is your time-line to achieve them? Are there different time-lines for different goals? Next, divide each goal into smaller intermediate time-line goals that will ,help you plan your Positive Path and measure your progress. These will be progressively smaller goals that will eventually lead you to your major goals. For example, if you are planning a time-line of 20 years, divide goals into smaller goals that need to be achieved if you are to reach your major goals. To do this, set a 5-year goal, a 1-year goal, a 3-month goal and a 1-month goal in each category and set an estimated start month and year for each time-line.Remember, your circumstances at any given time can impact on your goals. New experiences and new information can see your goals and priorities change with time. This is part of the real world, however goal changes need to be scrutinised before they are adopted to ensure that they are realistic and not just a diversion with little chance of success.

I want to give you another, more holistic path to transformation: Alchemy.

Alchemy is the transmutation of leaden human experience into spiritual gold. Even the worst stuff is USEFUL.

In fact that thing that has hurt the most, that area of shame and fear and disappointment and despair… is your Key to the Kingdom. And even better… the deeper the pain has been, the bigger the pay off on the other side.

Now please don’t get me wrong: I’m not encouraging anyone to go out and SEEK suffering. In fact, I think suffering is grossly overrated in Western culture.

But the inevitable losses and hurts of being a human being give us access to the humility and empathy we need to be fully human and able to connect with others and be of service.

And that’s the Holy Grail.

One of my favourite things about Alchemy is it can be instantaneous. Inner change can happen in the blink of an eye. And physical changes follow shortly thereafter.

I’d like to share a few tips to help you create gold.

If you’re doing everything you can and you’re still not seeing the results you desire, it’s not an accident.

If I’ve learned anything over the last decade of coaching thousands of people, it’s that we unconsciously protect ourselves from what we think we want. We have VERY GOOD REASONS to repel love, money, and success. In fact you’re a GENIUS to protect yourself so effectively from danger.

When you uncover the root cause of the issue (and it’s almost never what you’d expect), you can then make decisions that will allow you to receive the love/money/success/vitality you desire WITHOUT putting the safety brakes on.

So dive in! Get curious about the benefits of your worst situation, so you can get those benefits in a better way.

If everybody else’s system is failing you, you may be on to something new.

This is actually very exciting. If outside answers aren’t working for you, you may be brewing something original on the inside.

In fact I’d call your failure and struggle "research and development" into a specific aspect of the human condition. You’re becoming a world-class expert on a certain area of life… and like any birth, it takes as long as it takes.

And when your time comes, and your solution wakes up inside of you, you change the world. You evolve us all.

It’s all connected.

The sweetest bonus is the interconnected, holographic nature of existence. Nothing is separate. Solving just one thing changes everything.

Growth radiates into all areas of your life. YOU are changed, and your world changes around you. Everything you dreamed of becomes available to you.

Vision is nothing more than an image that you have painted on the walls of your mind. He question is who painted it??
