Dear Genius,

How did Gandhi, Mother Teresa, and Jesus survive weeks without food?

How did Leonardo da Vinci make advances in anatomy, astronomy, and physics that were centuries ahead of scientific discovery—and still find time to paint the most iconic picture in history?

What did people like Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Edison, and Albert Einstein do to help them pioneer remarkable breakthroughs and accomplishments?

They all used unique meditation techniques and mental exercises.

And these days, Oprah Winfrey, Sting, the Dalai Lama, Gwyneth Paltrow, and other accomplished individuals from every background and field of endeavour do it too.

Meditation is the doorway to innovative thinking, knowing, being healthy, finding calm inner strength, and… quite frankly… living happily, productively, and abundantly in this world.

And—contrary to what you may think—you can do it almost anywhere… even when you’re driving!

You’ve probably heard this before…

Every answer you seek is already inside your mind.

If that is true (and, based on the amazing benefits listed above, I believe it is), how do you get to those answers and insights when you need them?

If the genuine solutions and guidance you need are already in your mind, why are they sometimes so darn difficult to find?

On the other hand…

As hard as it can be to access this genuine information, every now and then the knowledge and insights just come to you like magic.

Why doesn’t that happen more often? Or, more importantly, how can you make it happen at your command?

The reason you get stuck has little to do with what’s in your mind.

The problem is with what’s not in your mind.

What your brain does normally

The electrical activity of the brain is measured in terms of “waves.” That means if you hook your head up to a machine that measures the electrical output of your brain, you’ll see it form a wave on the screen.

Your brain produces five basic types of waves. They’re called Delta, Theta, Alpha, Beta, and Gamma. While this sounds like a college fraternity, it’s really a measure of how fast or slow your brain is working at any given time.

Now here’s where what’s not in your brain comes in…

During most of the day when you’re working, texting, emailing, driving, or doing anything active, your brain waves are primarily in a Beta pattern.

But, if you want to find a creative solution to a problem or receive insights or breakthrough ideas on a challenge you’re facing, your brain needs to slow down to a Theta, Alpha, or Theta-Alpha pattern. These types of patterns occur when you’re drowsy, relaxed, and reflective (but not sleepy), or in a state in which a silent current of thoughts, images, and memories emerge spontaneously in your mind.

The problem is, with updates and news coming at you by the minute, and distractions and temptations just a keystroke away, it can be very difficult to achieve these slower brainwave patterns during the course of a normal day.

The result? You often feel overwhelmed and off-balance.

The doorway to breakthrough thinking

How can you slow down your brain waves even when you’re surrounded by chaos and stimulation?

By doing what Jesus, Benjamin Franklin, Albert Einstein, and many other brilliant individuals have done:

Develop your mental focus.

Mental focus enables you to shut out the noise that almost always surrounds you and to get calm in the ce of the storm. It is the single best tool you have for releasing the power of your mind and allowing the answers, breakthroughs, and insights you seek to be heard.

The best way to develop laser-sharp focus is to meditate. Meditation—in all its various forms—is supported by decades of scientific research and backed up by centuries of real-life experiences. It is proven to help you let go of all the content that generally occupies your consciousness by slowing down your brain waves. With your mind clear, you can access the knowledge that’s locked inside.

The fastest way to access the miraculous haven
inside your mind

At Nightingale-Conant, it has been our pleasure to work with some of the most incredible minds of our generation. After a while, we started to notice a common thread between many of our most successful authors…

The most successful, happy, and well-balanced people all have the power to focus their minds. By developing a focused mind, these individuals have been able to rise to incredible levels of achievement in just about every field.

But, slowing down your brain waves to have a focused mind can be challenging—even for the experts! That’s especially true with the stresses and constant stimulation of modern life. Now, more than ever, you need to develop ways to gain instant access to the calm, all-knowing haven that’s inside your mind.

And that’s why we’re so excited to introduce a brand-new comprehensive program called Focused Mind, Powerful Mind: Releasing Your Mind’s Greater Powers with Advanced Meditation Techniques.

It’s an advanced mind-training program that combines meditation and mental exercises in a whole new way so you can develop laser-sharp focus like some of the greatest thinkers of all time and perform as never before…

Today’s Brilliance™

Colette Baron-Reid

Colette is an internationally respected intuitive counsellor and life strategist, coach, speaker, broadcast personality and bestselling author.

If I could share 500 words of wisdom to summarize what I’ve learned so far in life, these are the important things I’d want to pass along to others…

When people ask what I’ve learned from the experiences in my life I have to smile. What always comes to my mind is faith, accountability, courage, forgiveness and compassion.

I have learned perception is everything, And, most of all participating in your own rescue is not an option. It’s a necessity.

My life has been an amazing adventure from the very beginning. Some may hear my story and say, "How did she survive"? I have gone from the highs and lows of a childhood where I had no idea that my sense of always being different, feeling and seeing so many things beyond my understanding would ever make sense, to an eating disorder, to alcohol abuse, to rape, violence and drug addiction. While any one of these experiences can be defined as horrible, collectively, it’s my life. They all led me to the person I am today, and enabled me the gift of insight and deep compassion for others who suffer.

All of those painful devastating things led to an extraordinary spiritual awakening and the deep integrated recovery that is a reflection of who I am today. I could tell my story as a victim or I could tell it as an adventure where I was the heroine that found the magic of meaning in all stories. Both would be true.

And there are other stories within the stories! There have been more that shape the person I am; writing and singing music, creating bestselling books, meeting the man of my dreams, and countless others. So what do they all mean? Whatever I decide they mean.

I tell them all the same thing. Perception is paramount. I’ve learned to define what the experience could mean to me, only when I allow myself to see through Spirit’s eyes and then the choices really begin.

I’ve learned that in order to thrive in life you MUST participate in your own rescue. This means being willing to take ownership of your role and actions in the experience. Make the choice to:

  • Love yourself enough to ask for help.
  • Love yourself enough to say no when it is necessary.
  • Love yourself enough to receive the help with an open heart. Your self worth depends on it! Participating in your own rescue also means that you are willing to be brave enough to do whatever it takes to turn yourself around.

Throughout my life I’ve had what some would deem as insurmountable events show up. I had many opportunities to give up. Surrender. Allow life to happen "to me". But, I discovered along my journey that these events shape me and give me the tools I need to help others with their journey. My ideal is to use my experiences as an example to others of what can happen when you make a choice to define the experience as opposed to allowing the experience to happen to you.

This line of thinking and feeling has brought me to deep levels of self worth. When I can guide someone out of the dark to a beautiful new landscape, my heart is filled with love for all that I have learned. Paying forward is my ultimate reward!

When you CHOOSE your perception, participate in your own rescue, and love yourself enough to allow the experience to educate you, you will grow by leaps and bounds!

There is no paycheck that can equal the feeling of contentment that comes from being the person you are meant to be.         Oprah Winfrey

Invest in yourself you are worth it

Impossible
Through some strange and powerful principle of “mental chemistry” which she has never divulged, Nature wraps up in the impulse of strong desire “that something” which recognizes no such word as impossible, and accepts no such reality as failure.                     – Napoleon Hill

Investing in Yourself

Invest in YOU skills are more precious than Gold_thumb[1]If you are interested in personal development it is important you commit to investing in yourself. No matter what it is you want to improve, no matter what you want to achieve, it will almost certainly require an investment or will be much better and be achieved much quicker with the right investment.

Start by listing the areas of improvement to which you wish to commit. This can be in a very wide area, and I am not limiting myself at all to one particular niche. Have a look at my previous article about the Top Ten New Year Resolutions. All ten are perfectly acceptable self improvement goals, and you can probably add quite a few more to this list.

Take a look around and see what resources are out there which could help you make serious inroads on those improvements you desire. Examine them carefully. There are a lot of scams out there, but there are also a lot of diamonds if you look carefully enough. Try to find at least one for each of the areas on your list. Don’t worry at this stage about how much money they may cost. All that should concern you right now is whether you believe they will help you achieve your goals better or faster, or both.

Once you have come up with the list of investments you want to make in yourself and are reasonably comfortable that, at least for now, this is a fairly complete list, the next step is to work out how you will pay for them.

One problem many people have, though, is that after they have paid all their monthly bills there is no money left to invest in themselves.

What may surprise you, though, is that no matter how much you earn you will almost certainly still find there is no money left after paying the bills. How can this be?

Parkinson’s Second Law

Success is not to be measued by the position but by the obstacles they have over come_thumb[3]The answer lies in Parkinson’s Second Law. You have probably heard his First Law – “work expands to fill the available time”. But perhaps you missed the Second Law – “expenditure rises to meet the available income”. Parkinson’s Second Law is often applied to bureaucracies and they way they can needlessly spend our money. But it is equally applicable to personal expenditure.

The corollary of Parkinson’s Second Law is that if you look carefully at your spending you will always find cuts you can make without impacting noticeably on your overall lifestyle.

Your first step should therefore be to examine your budget very carefully. Pretend you are a business which is not making profit. Step back and look at that business as if you were the finance director (or maybe the bank manager!). I think you will be surprised by some of the cuts you could make and still continue to enjoy life just as much.

It’s a sure thing that you’ll not finish if you don’t start.
An ancient proverb says, “The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.” You have probably known people nearing the end of their life’s journey who looked back and said, “If only I had done things differently. . . . If only I had taken advantage of that opportunity when it came along.” Unfulfilled lives are filled with “if only’s”. They are the refrain of the timid souls whose lives were finished before they ever really got started. Life is filled with many opportunities — for great successes and spectacular failures. It is up to you to seize the initiative, to take advantage of the opportunities that come your way. You are condemned to a life of mediocrity — unless you get into action. Don’t delay; do it today! – Napoleon Hill

Pay Yourself First

Once you have done this, regard yourself as your own primary creditor. You owe yourself a lot of money, so start paying it back.

Pay yourself first. Before you pay anyone else. Do not feel guilty about doing this. Every day of your adult life up to now you have paid everyone except yourself. Now it is your turn!

How much should you pay yourself? Well, that depends, of course. It depends on many factors. Not least of which is how much you managed to save off your budget – make sure at least half of this goes to you. Some coaches suggest it should be a minimum of 10% of your gross earnings. But again I stress this depends on your own circumstances and budget. Just don’t allow it to be whittled down to almost nothing!

Put it in savings and investments that you resolve not to touch except when investing in yourself.

Create a Second Income

Money[7]

Whether you work for someone else or have your own business you should consider ways of creating a second income. You can then reserve most of this new income to invest in yourself (well, the profit on it – as there will always be expenses).

One way you can do this is to set up an online marketing business. There are some major advantages of choosing this route rather than, for example, finding an additional part time job somewhere.

The first advantage is that you will be completely in control. You can invest as much or as little time as you like. As your business grows you may decide to give up your "day job" and spend all your working hours moving your internet business forward – but that is entirely up to you. There will be no boss looking over your shoulder telling you to speed things up or do things differently. Of course, you should also recognise this can be a disadvantage – you will need to have some good self-discipline to ensure you spend enough time doing the right things.

The second advantage is linked to the first. You do not have to work on specific days or at specific times. You can choose when to do this work. If you wake up in the middle of the night and cannot get back to sleep you can sit at the computer and do something to move your online business forward.

The third advantage is that once you have set up your business properly it will begin to generate profits for you even if you do not put a lot of effort in to grow it. You will need to continue doing some work in order to maintain it, so I do not believe it is correct to call it "passive income", but it should certainly generate you high profits for not a great deal of work as long as you have built it correctly.

Be aware, though, that as with any other business an online marketing business will require you to invest time and effort. Do not be misled by claims you will often see that suggest this is a miracle "instant millionaire" formula. It is not! You can certainly become very wealthy if you choose to do so, but this will not happen over night.

You will also probably find there will be a few false starts before you get your own formula right. Ideally you should take advice from an internet marketing coach who has been there and done that and who can stop you needing to re-invent the wheel yourself. This will not be cheap, but it will save you making costly mistakes and ultimately ensure you reach your goal faster if you choose the right coach.

Invest in Yourself

You can be certain that if you invest all your time in work you don’t care about, your spirit will die." —  Oprah

Once you have started this habit of paying yourself first, and have perhaps additionally created your second income, start to invest with this money. Not in company shares. Not in bricks and mortar. You are going to invest in something far more valuable than that. You are going to invest in yourself

Cheer up. Be happy. Find the silver lining. Smile.
If you didn’t know any better, you might say we’re a country that preaches optimism. But some 30 to 35 percent of Americans employ a calculated form of negative thinking—called defensive pessimism—that can lead to very positive results, according to Julie K. Norem, PhD, a professor of psychology at Wellesley College.

We’re not talking about a general disposition to see the glass half-empty: "Defensive pessimism is a strategy used in specific situations to manage anxiety, fear, and worry," says Norem, who has conducted seminal research on the subject. "Defensive pessimists," she says, "prepare for a situation by setting low expectations for themselves, then follow up with a very detailed assessment of everything that may go wrong." Once they’ve imagined the full range of bad outcomes, they start figuring out how they’ll handle them, and that gives them a sense of control.

"What’s intriguing about defensive pessimists," adds Lawrence Sanna, PhD, a professor of psychology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, who has also studied the phenomenon, "is that they tend to be very successful people, and so their low opinion of the outcome isn’t realistic; they use it to motivate themselves to perform better." For example, an executive is getting ready to pitch a project, and she thinks beforehand, "The client is going to be really difficult; he’s not going to like my proposal. I have to make sure I explain things very clearly." "She uses defensive pessimism as a tool to work through all the possibilities so she’s prepared for everything, even failure," Sanna says. "And if she does fail, she’s ready for it, so it’s not so catastrophic."

If all this sounds familiar (

take the quiz to see if you use defensive pessimism), a piece of advice from the experts may give you a lift: Don’t listen to appeals from friends or family to look on the bright side. "Research shows that if you pressure defensive pessimists into being optimistic, or try to manipulate their mood, their performance deteriorates," says Andrew J. Elliot, PhD, professor of psychology at the University of Rochester. One of the most frequent comments Norem got after publishing The Positive Power of Negative Thinking in 2001 was "Thank you. I can finally tell my mother to shut up."

Natural Selling lesson Four

The game of business is very much like the game of tennis. Those who fail to master the basics of serving well, usually lose. — Unknown

There is only one boss–the Customer. And he can fire anybody in the company from the chairman on down, simply by spending his money somewhere else. — Sam Walton

Silouette door sales

This lesson, we’re going to talk more about how to approach potential partners and customers using the magic and power of dialogue…a way of connecting with people at a deeper level than can be achieved just by telling or through conversation.

It’s based on 3 more principles of the Natural Selling Approach that we will cover in a moment.

We learned in the previous lesson that the Natural Selling Approach is a Problem Solving Exercise.

To do this you simply find out if people have the sort of problems that you can help them solve by:

1. Asking simple questions

2. Listening

3. Feeding back and responding to the answers to constantly make sure both of you are on the same track.

Doing this while suspending your agenda is the magic behind and power of dialogue. When you suspend your agenda, you allow others to openly reveal theirs without yours getting in the way.

Let’s look at this in the form of a principle… the 2nd one of four.

Principle 2. Asking the Right types of Questions at the Right Time

As you have seen, the conventional way of telling people about you, your company or your products, usually will result in rejection and objections.

It’s the Law of Giving and the Cause and Effect working against you!

So how to turn this around?

The key is not to tell, present, convince, persuade, manipulate or pressure someone to buy something or take action. It’s about asking questions and listening and effectively responding and allowing your potential partners and customers to convince themselves to change

Now, we’re not talking about manipulative or leading questions that are designed to get the answers you want to hear. If you use these questions whose answers are you likely to hear? Your own!

Whose answers and truth do you really want? Theirs!

While manipulative questions can be very powerful there are drawbacks to using them:

* People know when they are being manipulated and don’t like it

* Using them is uncomfortable for most Network Marketers and

Direct Sales People who tend to resist using them and end up

doing nothing.

* They are not effective for long term results.

While it’s possible to temporarily motivate people to do something, there is a very interesting phenomenon that takes place. After a short while they stop being motivated and stop doing what they agreed to do.

This behaviour is called passive aggression or buyer’s remorse.

You can see the effect of this when customers stop buying from you, or people drop out from your organization. This is usually because they came on board for your reasons, not theirs. This is the number one cause of the high customer and team attrition rate.

The Natural Selling Approach dramatically changes this.

The questions you use are intended to help the other person uncover and talk about the difference between what they have and what they would like based on their own inner and external values, without you having to guess or make a judgment.

After all, who has the history of what is, and has been, going on in their life, and what they want and why they want it? They do!

Small daily improvements are the key to staggering long term resultsYour potential partner or customers and you each bring a key thing to the Approach. On the one hand, they have their history and know what they want… they have the answers. You, on the other hand, know the potential of your products or income opportunity, and whether it can work for them based on the answers they give you. When you get a match, which will happen most of the time, you’ll then be able to explain your solution to them so that it all makes sense. So all you need are the right types of questions!

You also need to know when to ask them.

The Natural Selling Approach uses a "Dialogue/Conversation Framework" that explains what the types of questions are and when to use them to help you and the person you are talking with see clearly:

1. Whether they have the type of problems that your solution can help them solve

2. If they do, the depth of those problems.

3. Whether there is enough desire for them to want to do something.

Questions help people open their minds. Questions involve people. They allow people to think about their present situation, themselves and their problems.

Helping People Inspire Themselves to Change

The Natural Selling Approach is not about you persuading them, it’s about allowing people to persuade themselves as they come to see what is right for them.

While bias-free communication takes on going effort, it will help you build a This is how it works.foundation of trust with your listeners.                              — Leslie C. Aguilar

This is how it works.

As people respond to your questions they also listen to themselves. They;

1. Internalize what they say

2. Feel the discomfort of their present circumstances (and if things are not working as well as they would like) 3. Decide to make a change.

Their answers help them think about their problems and to own the idea that they want to change if their problems and internal motivation is great enough.

It gives meaning to the saying "When I say it, they can doubt me.

When they say it, it’s true."

The degree a person will change depends on two things;

1. The degree of discomfort they feel in the present moment as they talk about their present circumstances, and their;

2. Degree of their desire to move toward their dream

If you get out of your own way and listen to them, and are not hasty to come up with your solutions too quickly, they will listen to you.

Asking questions eliminates the need for you to present and learn closing and objection handling techniques. Because who eliminates all the objections in the Dialogue? They do, because they are the ones talking and revealing how they feel about their problems and internally motivating themselves to make a change.

The "Sale is Made" in the Discovering!

Learning how to ask the "Right Types of Questions at the Right Time" will prepare a person to be receptive to your solutions.

Before you speak THINKEssentially, they "sell themselves" on the idea of wanting to change and when you offer the idea of a potential solution, they are receptive to it.

The "sale" then is actually made during the uncovering and revealing a person’s needs, where they talk and listen to themselves into changing.

It’s when you have asked enough questions, responded appropriately to their answers, discovered there is a need to make a change and that the other person is open to changing, that you propose you might know of a solution that might help them.

The Natural Selling Approach can take two minutes or it can two years! It really depends on the other person and where they are in their lives.

One thing is guaranteed. If you don’t rush them and put your Personal Agenda on the shelf and let it guide you not manipulate you, if there is a sale to be made, you will make it every time.

Next we will take a close look at the other most powerful communication tool available to you – Listening.

The Secret

There is a difference between feeling gratitude and appreciation for something, and feeling attachment to something. Appreciation and gratitude are states of pure love, while attachment contains fear – fear of losing or not having what you are attached to. When it comes to something you want in your life, appreciation and gratitude attracts, and attachment pushes away. If you are feeling afraid that you will not get what you want, or losing what you have, then you have attachment.  To remove the attachment, keep shifting yourself into a state of appreciation and gratitude, until you can feel that the fear has gone. May the joy be with you, Rhonda Byrne

Exercises:

1. Have you ever experienced "Buyers Remorse"? Think about the situation and what happened. Did you ever do business with that person or organization again?

2. Start a Dialogue with a stranger or someone you know by asking them a question and continue asking them questions. Remove your Personal Agenda.

Just listen and ask questions based on the answers you get to your previous questions, or on something that comes to your mind.

Don’t talk about you or your ideas, or make comments. Just gently focus on asking questions. If you’re asked a question, briefly answer it and follow your answer with a question of your own.

See how "deep" you go exploring a particular issue. Observe your own feelings and how the other person is feeling.

Your thoughts ceate your future

To thine own self be true; to your success…

"Energy is the essence of life. Every day you decide how you’re going to use it by knowing what you want and what it takes to reach that goal, and by maintaining focus." Oprah Winfrey
