If I could share 500 words of wisdom to summarize what I’ve learned so far in life, these are the important things I’d want to pass along to others…

Like pursuing a career in the arts, building a small business is both incredibly rewarding and utterly terrifying. There are no next pay checks, severance packages, or safety nets for those of us who choose to go at it in the world of art or entrepreneurship. Everything is uncertain.

At the end of the day, I wouldn’t trade this uncertainty for anything—the lessons I’ve picked up coping with it have helped me become a more peaceful and adaptable person in every sphere of my life. Whether you are working on an artist commune, on Wall Street, or anywhere in between, these tips can help you enrich your life and improve your performance where it counts.

First, live in peace with what you cannot change. I learned early on in my career that, according to some people, jewellery is not essential for life. Who knew! What this means is that when the economy stinks (and it certainly has had its low points over the last few decades!), our business suffers badly.

I used to go into a total panic every time the wave of a recession would affect us. I would do everything I could to turn the tide and perk things up again. Turns out one lone designer can’t fix the economy.

Over time, I’ve learned to ride the wave, rather than fighting it. Rolling with the punches—it’s amazing how much more you can do and how much happier you can be when you adapt rather than combat. Sure, slow business is a drag. At the end of the day, though, the economy goes up and the economy goes down–and so does life.

Instead of freaking out about something I can’t change, I’ve learned to use slower periods as times for revaluating, readjusting, and preparing to have the best ready for when things pick up again.

On that note, you have to keep reinventing yourself. In business and in art, I think that this is fairly clear. You won’t get anywhere if you don’t innovate. But what about in life? I think that reinvention is highly underrated. Reinvention isn’t about throwing everything away and starting from scratch. Reinvention is about constantly changing your approach to all aspects of your life so that when the time comes to sit down and take stock, you realize you’ve grown noticeably and significantly.

You have to change your approach constantly to keep making room for improvement! It keeps life fresh and gives you a chance to think critically about what parts of your life and your career are working and what parts can be improved.

Finally, embrace your successes. Be proud of your successes. Own up to your successes. Learn from your successes. But then go back and do the same for your failures. They are so important in helping you grow and flourish, in showing you the path to the life you want, and in having a few great stories to pass along to the kids.

For every smash hit success I’ve had, I had several that fell flat. At the end of the day, eliminating what didn’t work helped me find who I was. So, do not be embarrassed of failure. Do not hide it. Do not blow it out or proportion. Or minimize it, either. We all experience it. We all learn from it. At the end of the day, it makes us who we are.

From The Secret Daily Teachings

If a person is focused on illness then they are inadvertently attracting more illness to them. On the other hand, if a person focuses more on health than illness, then the law of attraction must obey and produce health. The principles of the law of attraction are a powerful tool to summon the healing power within us, and can be used as an aid in total harmony with all of the wonderful medical procedures that are available today.                            Remember that if there were no healing power within us, nothing could be healed.                                                                                               May the joy be with you, Rhonda Byrne

Zak Weinstein

Zak is a young video game crazy trombonist and tennis champ who overcomes a neurological disorder called dystonia.

If I could share 500 words of wisdom to summarize what I’ve learned so far in life, these are the important things I’d want to pass along to others…

I chose Never Look Down as the title of my book because I truly believe that everyone has some disability and shouldn’t let it get in the way of their dreams. There are disabilities that are visible and others that aren’t. Because of my dystonia, I have trouble using my arms to do certain things. I can’t carry some things, write or do certain sports. Sometimes I get embarrassed in school when I drop something or my arms twitch uncontrollably.

My friend, Max, made me feel so much better one day when he said to me that at least I wasn’t short. He said that being short isn’t something you can hide from the world, nor can you control it. It creates many difficulties in life, but you just need to deal with them and move on. He’s right. Everyone has an issue; we just don’t always "see" it.

I think disabilities affect the people who do not have the disability as much as, if not more, than the person with the disability. For example, people are so surprised when I try to shake their hands or go to write something down. They may jump or gasp with the unique way I must do these things. In addition to their embarrassment, they are usually afraid to ask me why my arms do that.

When that happens, I decide to use the opportunity to educate them about dystonia. I welcome opportunities where I can use my own disability to help other people understand that a disability is only in your own attitude and how you choose to deal with it. For me, my dystonia enables me to help all types of people to be more comfortable and knowledgeable about any type of disability.

I know that the world will continue to throw problems at me and I also know that it does the same to everyone. I believe that the best thing to do is accept challenges and try to figure out ways to work around the problems rather than avoiding them. Some problems will disappear, but many will just get worse if you don’t face them head on and overcome them. I am grateful to the people who support me and in turn, I want to help others that need support.

I do believe that you can do anything if you can set your mind to it and believe in yourself – even if it’s not the traditional way of doing it or you have to go the extra mile for it. If you really want to do something, go after it and keep your head high, because you will only succeed if you believe you can. I refuse to let dystonia or any other obstacle get in my way. I’ll never look down and I hope to lift other people’s attitudes regardless of their disability as I move on in life.

The Power of TRY

Glenda Watson HyattIf I could share 500 words to inspire, this is the important wisdom I’d want to pass along to others…

My message to the world comes down to one word: try.

In my lifetime, I have seen too many people afraid to try; too scared to try new things, to try new places, to try meeting new people. Watching them place needless limitations on themselves meant, sadly, watching human potential go wasted. Great ideas, solutions and relationships were never realized or even attempted because they were too reluctant to try. They feared what others may think, they doubted their own abilities or they feared what may or may not happen.

Yet, trying can be liberating, empowering, and even exhilarating.

Trying leads to discoveries – discovering abilities and strengths that you didn’t know you had, discovering your own beliefs and values, and discovering what the big, amazing world is all about.

Trying builds confidence and belief in yourself, even when others may doubt you.

Trying means starting, somewhere, anywhere, and then proceeding one step at a time, no matter how small the step seems.

Trying takes determination and perseverance. When you stumble and possibly even fail, stand up, brush yourself off and try again.

Trying entails taking risks and doing something you haven’t done before. With an appropriate degree of forethought, planning or support in place, take that next step. Was it as risky as you were worried about?

Trying involves solving problems. When one way doesn’t work, try another way and even another. Keep trying until the problem is solved or until it no longer exists.

Trying means stepping out of your comfort zone. What you find out there can be so rewarding, so glorious and so awe-inspiring. You may wonder why you stayed trapped within the confines of your comfort zone for so long.

Go ahead…try…see how far you can go, how much you can accomplish, how much you can become.

If I could share 500 words of wisdom to summarize what I’ve learned so far in life, these are the important things I’d want to pass along to others…

Only the strong survive, the weak will fold. Life isn’t always easy. Being strong and courageous is doing what others are afraid to do. Don’t be afraid to pave your own way.

Take chances and take them frequently. Taking chances and risks will spark an undeniable curiosity that has to be quenched.

You can’t fear failure. Embrace it. Accept the fact that failure is possible and everyone, at some point in their life, fails at something. The key is to learn from your mistakes and grow. Always move forward.

P.U.S.H.! Pray until something happens.

Surround yourself with successful people. Even if your definition of success differs, you’ll find yourself associating with other goal-oriented people.

The Law of Attraction is REAL. What you put out into the Universe, you will get back. The Law of Attraction is about focusing on the things/outcome you want and not the things/outcome you don’t want. You are in control. You attract what you put out. Say you jump out of bed and stomp your toe. Some will say that’s a start to a bad day. It’s not.

Never put out in the Universe you’re having a bad day. We don’t have bad days… we have moments within our days that can change instantly by the vibrations/positive thoughts you send out to the world.

Always be a giver and give wholeheartedly. Even when you think you don’t have, still give. You’ll always reap what you sow, whether it’s money, time, knowledge, love, etc. That is the first lesson in receiving.

Balance is essential. Take time out for you. If you don’t take the time to get your mind together, your focus will suffer. The day-to-day of life can become overwhelming and can cause you to become easily frustrated. Exercise and eat a well-balanced diet.

Have an amazing support structure. Your wife, husband, mom, dad, best friend, whoever is there when you need to be rejuvenated. When times get hard, your support structure will definitely give you that extra boost of confidence you need.

Be dedicated. You have to be prepared to give 110%. Be dedicated to reaching and exceeding your goals. Sometimes you’ll have to go beyond the call of duty.

Have an attitude of gratitude. Be grateful for what you have, the experiences you’ve gone through and all things placed in your life. They’ve all made you who you are. Everyone has a story, so don’t take anything for granted and appreciate the small things.

Never give up! Even when you feel like you can’t take another step or fight another battle, don’t give up and stick to it.

Be consistent at consistency and always be a student. Be open to the world by learning from others who are smarter than you. Self-educate and learn something new daily.

Invest in yourself and know your worth. How do you expect others to invest in you when you don’t want to invest in yourself?

Have passion. Find out what in your life gives you an indescribable feeling of joy and do it often. Own it.

Don’t overthink things and go with the flow. When you overthink you can create problems and issues that weren’t there initially.

The Universe knows the quickest route to your success. Trust it. Have faith. Ask. Believe. Receive. Darryl Easterling

Seeking Tips on Personal Development

Develope your own compass and trust it

To seek out any or the best tips on how to organize personal development starts from within.  The field where one can search  is massive, and there are so many things you can do!

Try to begin with the end in mind.  I say “try” as the reality is none of us really knows where we will end up, and usually when you look back after many years of personal development you realize the journey has been quite different from what you initially envisaged.  But it is important at the outset at least to have a rough idea of what your goal may be.  Without knowing that you will not really know the direction you should be going, and without knowing the direction you will probably choose the wrong tools.  It would be a bit like starting on a journey, trying to follow a map, but not actually knowing where you want to go!  So spend some time thinking about what you want to become.  No limits.  Write down all your ideas as they come to you.  Then when you have enough written down try to feel which ones seem right for you.  This should help identify the right direction of travel for you.

When you are thinking about what you want to become, don’t be frightened of aiming for the stars.  We are all made of star dust anyway, so aim for those stars!

Change your mental attitude, and the world around you will change accordingly.
Your world will become what you choose to make it. You can reach great heights of success, or you can settle for a miserable life that is devoid of hope. The choice is yours. When you choose a positive course, you set in motion an unstoppable force that will allow you to have a fulfilling career, the love of your family and friends, good physical and mental health, and all of the other true riches of life. To change your world, you must change it from the inside out. You must begin with yourself. When you choose the course that puts your life on a positive track, you will change your life for the better, and you will also positively influence the people with whom you come in contact. Napoleon Hill

That’s for the big picture.  Long term, don’t accept any limitations.  There are no limitations.  Or, rather, the only limitations are the ones you create for yourself.

Now you know where you are headed, start to think about the steps you can take to move in that direction.  These can be very small steps.  In fact, they should be.  They are things you know you can achieve.  You probably have no idea how you are eventually going to reach your long term goal, but that doesn’t matter, as you will eventually reach it if you keep taking the right steps in that direction.

Keep an open mind.  You never know when the next opportunity is going to knock or which direction it will come from.  Often it is entirely unexpected.  Also opportunities will often appear and you will fail to spot them.  Do not be discouraged by this.  The more you open your mind, the more you get focused on what it is you want to achieve, the easier it will be to start spotting those opportunities.  You will certainly miss some, but that is not the end of the world as (contrary to what you may have read) similar opportunities will arise again.

Join groups of similarly minded people.  Ideally they will be people nearby, but this is not essential.  If there are no such groups near you then look for “virtual” groups on the internet.  Gain both encouragement and new ideas from the groups.  Ask others what tools they have used to achieve their results.  You will be surprised at how much information you can get and how helpful those new friends can be.

Do it now! Decide where you are going and how to get there. Then make a start from where you now stand. Napoleon Hill

The corollary is to avoid, where possible, people who try to discourage you and tell you that you will never achieve what you are trying to achieve.  There are many such people around, and they are really toxic.  You do not have to put up with this – just avoid them.

A lot of what you need will be available for free.  Take advantage of this.  You will be amazed at just how much good free information is out there.  If you really are going to improve your knowledge.

What you will also find, though, is that as you start to develop in a particular direction you will probably have to start paying for further help.  View this not as a cost but as an investment.  The most important investment you will ever make – an investment in you, your future, and your happiness.  A recommendation is to  start keeping aside 10% of whatever you earn to use as an investment in yourself.  Remember it is only a recommendation, but if you wish to grow;  Start right now! Before you even know what you will need to invest in – put this money aside, hopefully earning a bit of interest, so it is ready to use when you need it.

“Success is not a destination: It is a journey. The happiest people I know are those who are busy working toward specific objectives. The most bored and miserable people I know are those who are drifting along with no worthwhile objectives in mind.” Zig Ziglar

Don’t get confused by the huge variety of material out there.  Often you will find very similar systems offered by different people and organizations, all promising to help you reach your goals.  As long as the system is good, just go with whichever feels right to you.  There are many paths to the same destination.  As for whether or not it is good, do some research first.  Or let someone prominent in the field search through everything and come up with selective recommendations.

Enjoy your journey.  Remember that you will never reach the end, as your goal will start to change as you begin the journey and well before you reach it you will find you have come up with more goals even further ahead.  So take pleasure from the journey itself – otherwise, what is the point?

The road to success

Finally, do not become discouraged.  I cannot promise you there will be no  setbacks.  That is simply a part of the rich tapestry of life.  Accept the setback, see what you can learn from it (that is very important!) and then move on.  If you adopt this attitude then even the setbacks can be regarded as an essential part of the great journey you are taking, as they teach you essential lessons.

Wherever your personal development journey is taking you, enjoy!

If you allow yourself to worry or hurry in what you are doing, this will not be clearly photographed upon the sensitized plate of the subjective mind, and you therefore will not be really conscious of your actions. – The book of the Power of Concentration
