Forgiveness by Seth Godin

PMA Added…  Wise Words  “Even though you may want to move forward in your life, you may have one foot on the brakes. In order to be free, we must learn how to let go. Release the hurt. Release the fear. Refuse to entertain your old pain. The energy it takes to hang onto the past is holding you back from a new life. What is it you would let go of today?” -Mary Manin Morrissey,

Has anyone ever said or done anything unforgiveable to you?  Something so awful you know you can never forgive them?

Probably this strikes a bell with most of my readers.  It would certainly be rare to find someone who has never been mistreated, never misunderstood, never abused in one way or another.  In some cases the abuse may have been particularly nasty.  Something you would much rather forget, but find you cannot.

Does this person deserve your forgiveness?  Probably not.  Should you forgive them?  Absolutely!

Why do I say this?  If they don’t deserve your forgiveness, why should you forgive them?  Am I trying to turn you into a saint or something?

No.  I am not saying this to make you a "goody goody".  And I am certainly not suggesting you should allow anyone to take advantage of you.  So why I am saying it?

The reason is that I believe you deserve to be free.  You deserve to be happy.  You deserve to be able to do whatever you wish in life and not be weighed down carrying a load dumped on you by someone else.

If there is anyone you have not forgiven for what they have done or said to you this means you are allowing that person to control your life.  You are giving them the ultimate victory over you.  Is that what you want?  If not, you simply have to find a way to forgive them.

Some of you may now be saying "it’s all very well for you to say that, but you don’t know how I have suffered!  You cannot understand just how bad this was!"

I agree I cannot know what it is like to suffer in the way you may have suffered.  To use a common Christian saying, we each have our own cross to bear.  The one you are bearing may be far heavier than mine.  But even though I cannot understand just how bad it was for you, what I do understand is that you are now carrying an unnecessary burden.  Just like "Christian" in John Bunyan’s "Pilgrim’s Progress".  Christian was carrying a burden so heavy he could hardly move.  So are you if there is someone you have not forgiven.  Your happiness is marred because every so often you think of this unforgiveable thing that was done to you and it spoils what would otherwise be a lovely moment in a lovely day.  Why not simply throw that burden away?  It is not stuck to you with superglue.  You have chosen to carry it.  Now you should choose to throw it away.

There may be others who will say "but there is nobody I haven’t forgiven!  Nobody has done anything particularly bad to me!"  If so, you are very fortunate!  But I would suggest there are probably some slights, some grievances, some humiliations that your conscious mind has forgotten but are still bubbling away somewhere under the surface.  You do not feel desperately unhappy, but because there are some unforgiving words and actions loitering in your unconscious mind what could be a really happy moment is, instead, just mildly pleasant.  These unforgiving things are stopping you reaching your full potential.  They are controlling you.

Would you like to free yourself of this burden?  Great!

The first thing you must do is find all the actions and words you have not yet forgiven.  Some may be easy to find.  Others will be hiding under the surface.  Sit quietly and let them come to you.

Now, for each unforgiving act or word find the person.  Picture that person in your mind.  Say to them "I forgive you".  At first you will probably feel silly. But don’t worry about that.  Nobody is watching you.  Nobody is laughing at you.  This is something you are doing for yourself so you can be happier.

As you do this you will find a part of your mind will tell you that this person does not deserve your forgiveness.  You can immediately dispel that thought by saying "they may not deserve it, but I am forgiving them for me, not for them!"  This other part of your mind may say it was totally wrong of them to do this to you.  Respond by saying "I am not the one who will judge them for it, and I am not asking them or anyone else to do this again to me, I am just letting go so this act no longer controls me.  I forgive!"

If you are a Christian you should remember the phrase in the Lord’s Prayer "Forgive me my wrongdoings as I forgive those who have done wrong to me"?  Whether or not you are a Christian this is a phrase I would like you to remember and use.  When you forgive others you will find that forgiveness of yourself comes quite naturally too.  But give it a helping hand anyway.  Add your own wrongdoings now.  See them clearly and then forgive yourself.  As long as you have forgiven others you should find you are now able to forgive yourself.  When you do you really should find you feel light and buoyant.  You have let go of your burden.

Try to perform this act of forgiveness every day.  I suggest you do it last thing at night before you go to sleep, as you should find your sleep will then be that much more refreshing.  Try it, let go, don’t allow anyone to control you any more and see just how much difference this makes in your life!

Afraid of failure?

“If I had to live my life again, I’d make the same mistakes, only sooner.”—Tallulah Bankhead

Afraid of Failure? Read the following steps

Steps to Break Down Failure

Have you ever felt like a failure? I totally have. But I am not alone.

There is an epidemic of feelings of failure in any country and failure is so definitive. When you think you failed, there is not much wiggle room to be anything other than “a failure.” A horrible way to see yourself! This becomes a belief ingrained and tainting everything else we do and try. Here are four ways to break it down.

A. Lower Your Expectations

Failure is in relation to something. Usually some standard or expectation that was not met: I am not thin enough, pretty enough, smart enough. Having unreasonable expectations is more detrimental on our health than anything else. It brings in judgment, which compounds every other problem we already have.

When we have a feeling which is appropriate to the situation, and then we judge ourselves, then we worry! the problem becomes so much bigger and harder to recover from. Then, we berate ourselves for not recovering quickly with another layer of judgment. The original feeling is nothing compared to the complex mess and layers of our own judgement and fear.

Do not add them. Allow yourself to feel and do not worry, you can handle it. Be gentle and compassionate with yourself, lower those outrageous expectations! Instead of dwelling, do something. Seek a “Mentor with a Servant’s Heart”

B. Know there is a point to trying

Past feelings of failure attempt to take away our point to trying to feel better or accomplish something. We get convinced that we will fail anyway. We assume trying hard will make us more disappointed when we do actually fail, and so we put less effort in in hopes to protect our heart. With less effort, we may actually not achieve our goal and we can say “See? I always fail. Good thing I did not try.”

The point is “Rarely is anything accomplished without trying” And if we try and don’t succeed, our heart actually feels better, not worse. We build confidence knowing that we did our best. We feel empowered because we can respond to things in life. This is giving in to your fears

C. Notice your accomplishment

Simple. See the good in you instead of the bad. Focus on something else beside that one standard you missed. Have confidence in the efforts you did put forth. Notice other things you received from the process, a good example are  friends you’ve made along the journey and “ what you have  learned”  and how it made you grow. Remember all other accomplishments in your life. be positive

D. Remember it is not over

We sometimes assume we failed too soon. Then we feel devastated and stop trying. If you are still alive, you could not have failed, since it is not over. Yes, your standards and expectation might change, but if you are still kicking, you cannot by definition be a failure. Readjust your expectations and try again ALWAYS -  Never Give up!!!

I think I can, I think I can, I think I can……. I can, I can!

Foot note for the winner in you.

Your dreams and desires to win are down to you and no one else… If no one is listening find those that will, live the life you desire with those that have trodden the path before.  Then teach those who sit in your wake.

Be the person you wish to be & leave negative in the slow lane.

When you realise you are a winner and find the next gear be ready for what awaits you.  Perhaps you are ready and now & looking for the opportunity to work for yourself  so you can help those less fortunate, with their own mental attitude, be the teacher & TEACH.

The road is paved with GOLD just open the right door in your mind and take the first step.  Gray

What I find amazing is that when you go out of your way to give to another person, you will also receive great things in your life. This is what is called the Law of Giving and Receiving. Ian FoxIf I could share 500 words to inspire, this is the important wisdom I’d want to pass along to others…

Don’t waste your life, your beauty, your infinite connection to all things, worrying, overworking and collecting “material things!”

Control your ego; temper your desires and let forgiveness, love and personal freedom be the beacon that guides you.

Awaken from the delusion of having to show off and prove yourself to others. The best house, car, clothes and latest gadget mean little, because they are not who you really are beyond thought and form. The things you want to own, invariably end up owning you. They become the “screws” of your life, nailing you to the floor, preventing you from spanning new pastures. You are more than what you own and not defined by what you owe.

Step off the mouse wheel by refraining from doing things you hate, decorating your life with ego fuelled crud and people who see you as a means to an end. You’re not a slave to someone else’s agenda. You’re a free spirit, not a worshipper to the daily rituals of modern society.

Step back and see the merry-go-round of illusions for what it is. There is nothing wrong in wanting better things in life. As long as you are not paying for them long after the shine has worn off and the ephemeral ego-fix has evaporated. Today’s treasure is tomorrow’s trash! Tame your mind with spiritual awareness, discipline and practice delayed gratification. Don’t conform, reform!

Be yourself and if others can’t accept that, then don’t allow their judgement to become your prison cell. Simplifying your life and becoming more spiritually aware is the answer. Money, glamour and objects are not gods to be adored and adorned. The weight of these things holds you down and corrupts your energy. Give stuff away, lighten your load and escape being shackled to the system. Create an unrestricted life for yourself and those dear to you. Less mess is less stress.

Live free by choosing what you want to do, not what you “have” to do. Most humans fall out of bed in the morning, only to re-connect with the mainframe of human slavery and egoic entrapment. You can only be free to the degree to which you are not trapped by physical, financial or mental obligation.

To avoid the human condition of perpetual disappointment, yearning, reaction, problem creation, fear and feelings of inadequacy, you must raise your consciousness beyond the realm of compulsive thinking and judging.

The truth is you need to raise your energy and consciousness, not to be more attractive and powerful or to make loads of money, but to open your heart and mind to a new found freedom and elevate your current existence.

You appreciate most people are trapped, held hostage by their egos and consume far more than they will ever need. They rush around from one drama and crisis to another, trying to make sense of it all! The more you let go, the more things seem to happen effortlessly and more natural flow you create in your life.

A few years from now an empty space will mark the spot where you once stood. All your things will be gone. If you want to live forever make a difference in the lives of others and change yourself today.

Creating Your Success Self-Concept

Ronald KaufmanIf I could share 500 words to inspire, this is the important wisdom I’d want to pass along to others…

Some of the things I would suggest are to work on your self-esteem, take care of your health, and to give to others.

Too many people have low self-esteem and it can impact all of us. People tend to behave in alignment with their self-concept or their beliefs about themselves and who they are. So here’s what I suggest: create a success self-concept for yourself. When you are the success you wish to be, based on how you define success, what would your behavior say is true of you in terms of your traits, qualities, and characteristics?

Would it say that you are kind, caring, honest, hardworking, accepting, patient, giving, trustworthy, fun, dependable, responsible, respectful, enthusiastic, forgiving, appreciative, inspiring, understanding, empathetic, attentive, cheerful, fair, friendly, polite, nurturing, loyal, positive, cooperative, loving, etc.?

Based on your behavior, what would people be saying about you behind your back? What do you want them to be saying about you?

Use your success self-concept to act as a beacon and guide for your choices, decisions, and actions. Staying true to this will contribute to feeling good about yourself and to continuing to engage in these same behaviors.

Positive self-esteem will also support choosing to live a healthy lifestyle. A key is to eat real food, period! If it’s processed and altered, stop eating it. Notice how your mind and body respond to what you eat. Does a food or drink drain your energy, does it make your thinking foggy, does it raise your pulse? If so, it’s telling you that it’s negative for your well-being.

When I have a taste of chips, pie, ice cream, cookies, french fries, or cheesecake, I crave more. Not want more, crave! These things are brilliantly manufactured to increase our appetite for them. When I eat an apple, pear, or grapefruit, it takes very little to satisfy me. Only have real foods available to you to satisfy your hunger, as well as filtered water.

And as you know, getting physical is essential to being healthy. Pick activities you enjoy, whether it’s walking, dancing, tennis, gardening, yoga, weightlifting, etc. The body is one of those “use it or lose it” situations.

Someone once said, “He who enriches others, enriches himself”. In my experience, one of the best things we can do for ourselves is to give to others, to be of service to others, to create a positive moment for others.

It can be as simple as a smile, a kind word, listening without judgment, offering to help with something, letting someone in front of you in line, sending useful information, or calling just to say hi. Be on the lookout for opportunities to make a positive difference for others to maintain a positive state of being for yourself.

To paraphrase Ralph Waldo Emerson, success is “to find the best in others; to leave the world a better place, … to know even one life has lived easier because you lived.”

“One of the most magical facts about the universe is that there are no human duplicates. There never has been, nor will there be, another person like myself or any one else.” – Dorothea McArthur

“Lead by example. The best way to inspire those you care about to lead healthy lives is by leading one yourself. Begin today.”  – Giovanni Bisanti
