THE IMPORTANT THINGS IN LIFE

Life says, “Make good or make room, but don’t make excuses.”
In today’s management parlance, “Lead, follow, or get out of the way.” When you are actively working toward a goal, there are no failures; there are only degrees of success. Choose to be a leader. Take the initiative. When you are faced with a problem or a difficult decision, don’t waste endless hours agonizing over the solution. If you analyse the situation objectively, you will always find an answer. Don’t focus on the problem; focus on the solution. Then get into action. As W. Clement Stone has often said, “The emotions are not always subject to reason, but they are always subject to action!” – Napoleon Hill

As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them." John F. Kennedy

imageA philosophy professor stood before his class with some items on the table in front of him. When the class began, wordlessly he picked up a very large and empty mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with rocks, about 2 inches in diameter

He then asked the students if the jar was full. They agreed that it was.

So the professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into the jar. He shook the jar lightly. The pebbles, of course, rolled into the open areas between the rocks.

He then asked the students again if the jar was full. They agreed it was.

The professor picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar. Of course, the sand filled up everything else. He then asked once more if the jar was full. The students responded with a unanimous "Yes."

"Now," said the professor, "I want you to recognize that this jar represents your life. The rocks are the important things – your family, your partner, your health, your children – things that if everything else was lost and only they remained, your life would still be full.

The pebbles are the other things that matter – like your job, your house, your car.

The sand is everything else. The small stuff."

"If you put the sand into the jar first," he continued "there is no room for the pebbles or the rocks. The same goes for your life. If you spend all your time and energy on the small stuff, you will never have

Room for the things that are important to you. Pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness. Play with your children. Take your partner out dancing. There will always be time to go to work, clean the house, give a dinner party and fix the disposal.

Take care of the rocks first – the things that really matter. Set your priorities. The rest is just sand."

imageThe Power of Simplicity – that is what the story demonstrates. If I may add my two cents worth… the story underlines the need to give priority to the IMPORTANT over the URGENT. Once the Important is in place, we can attend to the Urgent. If we fail to do that, we become perpetual slaves to the great tyrant called Urgent.

Your life is a learning process – you can only become wiser from learning. Sometimes you might have to attract making a painful mistake to learn something important, but after the mistake you have far greater wisdom. Wisdom cannot be bought with money – it can only be acquired through living life. With wisdom comes: strength, courage, knowing, and an ever-increasing peace. May the joy be with you, Rhonda Byrne

If I could share 500 words of wisdom to summarize what I’ve learned so far in life, these are the important things I’d want to pass along to others…

The most important gift that you can give yourself, and the world, is to live an authentic life. This takes a lot of courage and commitment as society tends to pull you in all different directions, pushing you to be everything and anything but who you wish to be yourself.

If you want to live an inspired life, it’s vital that you are true to you, what your dreams and visions are and what kind of life you would love to lead, not somebody else’s idea of what that is. It’s time for you to honour yourself and your passions and start living YOUR life on your terms!

Surround yourself with people who uplift and encourage you to live the life of your dreams! They say that you become like those you spend time with, so it’s important to connect with people who inspire you and bring out the absolute best in you every time you interact! I have found this to be one of the most beautiful experiences on my journey, the friends that I have met that have helped me to reconnect with my true inner self and shine are such precious souls and I am very grateful for having them in my life!

You are totally unique and special in every way, there’s not one other person that has ever walked the earth that has been like you and there never will be! You have gifts and talents that only you can share in such an inspiring way, and there are others waiting for you to step into your inner power and share those gifts and talents with them. Spend some time identifying what you are good at and what makes your heart sing, and then share your gifts with the world!

Develop a healthy love for yourself: you are gorgeous in every way! The most important relationship that you will ever have is with yourself. Every relationship you have in life is a direct reflection of how you feel about yourself. The more you fall in love with you, the more you fall in love with the world!

Sometimes you’re so busy going about your daily life, you forget to take time out for yourself to reflect on who you are and where your life is going, always living in the head space and not communing with your heart space. There’s a beautiful essence within each and every one of you waiting to be heard, calling you to your highest life, but a lot of the time you’re ‘too busy’ to listen! When you take time to be still, to be present and just allow your inner being to speak to you, your life will flow like never before.

Keep things light and laugh a lot. Life can be filled with many peaks and valleys, however, how you respond to what happens in your environment is up to you. The lens that you look through determines the life that you live, so adopting a happy demeanour definitely lends itself to living an inspired life!

Make your life matter… Making a commitment to be a beneficial presence on the planet in whatever way that speaks to you, this is what elevates you from the realm of the ordinary to the extraordinary! Asking yourself, "What can I bring to the world?" instead of "What can I get from the world?" can be one of the most important questions you will ever ask yourself. Leave the world a better place!

Know your own mind, and you will be as wise as the sages.
When you take charge of your mind, you take charge of your life. When you understand your thoughts, feelings, emotions, and desires, you can direct them to any end you choose. Wisdom comes from taking the time to study yourself, to know why you are the person you are. Taking charge of your mind is a thoughtful, reflective, solitary process. Only you can come to understand the complex inner workings of your own mind, and you must be willing to spend the time and effort that gaining such insight requires. Napoleon Hill

If I could share 500 words of wisdom to summarize what I’ve learned so far in life, these are the important things I’d want to pass along to others…

I am an American who is fortunate to have had jobs that allowed me to travel to different countries. Over the past 30 years I’ve been in more than 35 countries in Europe, the Middle East and Asia.

During many of those trips I was able to talk with hundreds if not thousands of people in those countries who represented different parts of the culture, community and workforce, such as company CEO’s, and other executives, managers, engineers, production workers, hotel employees, taxi drivers, waiters and waitresses and others. Many of them were also parents.

From all of those conversations, I learned something that changed my view of the world and its people.

What I realized was pretty simple. It doesn’t matter who we are, where we live, our nationality, level of education, language or culture, most of our life’s goals are all the same. We might express them in different languages, use different cultural norms, but for most of the people who live in this world, we have much in common.

For most American parents, their life’s goal is simple, to ensure their children have a better life than theirs. They want their children to be happier, healthier, better educated and safer. Finally, they want their children’s generation to have the wisdom and the courage to make the world a better place for all of us to live.

Words of Wisdom

With one kind gesture you can change a life. One person at a time you can change the world."

From all of those conversations I had with parents from other countries, I realized they want the same for their children that American parents want for theirs. A better life, for them to be healthier, safer, better educated, and to have opportunities. They also want their children to have the wisdom to make the world a better place to live.

Why is this important for all of us to recognize and understand? It’s important because when a group has a common goal, an important goal, barriers and obstacles can disappear. Misunderstanding can be addressed and wrong perceptions go away.

Unfortunately I also realized we are too quick to judge an entire country or culture based on the actions or words of their leaders. While their political leaders may not be like us in their life goals, the people who live in those countries are like us.

Recognizing this is a step in the right direction to begin to resolve our own feelings and our own internal worries. For me it opened up a world I did not know existed. I can now view the people of a country differently than how I viewed their political leaders.

We do have the ability to make the world a better place, one parent, one child and one thought at time, because as parents… we are all the same.

Only the highway of useful service leads to the city of happiness.
Psychologists who study human behaviour have concluded that we are happiest when we are striving to achieve success. It is the act of striving, not the successful completion of the task, that provides the greatest psychic rewards. When you strive to achieve success through service to others, you multiply the benefits to yourself, and you ensure that whatever road you choose in life will ultimately lead you to success and happiness. There is no occupation or profession that will not benefit from a concerted effort to better serve others. But the greatest benefit will be to you, in the form of the self-satisfaction that comes from knowing that you made a difference, that without you others would never have received the service you provided. If I could share 500 words of wisdom to summarize what I’ve learned so far in life, these are the important things I’d want to pass along to others…

Love is all there is. The energy of love is the basis for all you know. You and every soul were born of love and you and every soul want to vibrate closer and closer to the vibration of love. When you vibrate closer to the energy of love, you become happier, freer, more creative, more joyful, and more vibrant.

Perhaps romantic love is the expression most equated with the significance of love, but intimate passion is only one form. To love is to feel joy and pleasure toward any person, place, thing, or idea.

Love is fire. Love is curiosity. Love is wisdom. Love is seeing beyond the illusion. Love is knowing. Love is creating. Love is bold. Love is strong. Love is eternal. Love is the power of life. Love is the source of all good. Love is the consequence. Love is the reason. Love is being. Love is peace. Love is all.

If you want to live more in the vibration of love to be happier, take a few wise steps this month. These steps sound simple on paper, but they take effort and focus to master. If you follow the prescribed steps, you WILL be happier by the end of a month.

1. Love yourself more.

For the next two weeks, become conscious of your “random” thoughts about yourself.

“He won’t like my idea.” “I’m such an idiot for forgetting.” “I look fat.” “I can’t win.” For every limiting phrase you think, flip it 180 degrees and tell yourself the opposite or restate it with humour. “He may like my idea!” “Oops, goofed! Oh well!” “Hey, a few extra pounds means I get to wow everyone with my sparkling personality and not just my great looks!” “I am a winner!”

It takes focus, but it’s worth it. Let love grow.

Love is an aspect of being, and when you act from being, the power you draw on is limitless because it comes from the source.” —  Deepak Chopra

2. Appreciate the good in anything and everything.

For example:

You broke your arm. You are tempted to fret about the inconvenience, but look for the benefit instead. You’ve been the only one driving carpool, so now someone else gets a chance to take responsibility.

Fourteen more inches of snow. Ahhh, a perfect day for a fire, hot cocoa, and a game of Scrabble.

Let love grow.

3. Release judgment.

Memorize the statement, “Everyone is doing the best they can within their level of awareness.” And then live as though you know it’s true. People are different. They show variety and depth, originality and plainness. They cry too much and laugh too loud. They show up late and forget birthdays. They eat, they regret, and they love. They live sadly and they live happily.

Among the variety, there is only one truth that they all have in common. They all want to be valued and appreciated. They all want love. Love them. Love them for who, what, where, and why they are. Love them more and you will love you more.

Let love grow. You will uncover more happiness because you intend to!

If I could share 500 words of wisdom to summarize what I’ve learned so far in life, these are the important things I’d want to pass along to others…

One of the greatest failings in business school is that our future business leaders are taught to ask "what can you do for me?" or, in the words of Janet Jackson, "what have you done for me lately?"

This isn’t just a business view, however; this permeates modern Western culture and makes the words of John F. Kennedy ring hollow: "Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country." (Few people also recall the next line in Kennedy’s speech: "My fellow citizens of the world: ask not what America will do for you, but what together we can do for the freedom of man.")

JFK had it right and it’s how I live my life: I endeavour to give, to contribute, to make what I have learned and figured out available to everyone without charge, without barriers, without restrictions or limitations. My business is all about disseminating information to improve people’s lives, gratis. No subscription fee, no download charge, no membership requirement.

I live my personal life with the same core philosophy, trying to focus on the needs of my friends and colleagues and meet them where they need to be met.

This isn’t to say that it’s to the exclusion of my own needs, and I am blessed to have many friends who give back many-fold what they receive.

Higher education is going to change as much in the next decade as newspapers did in the last one.

But that’s your exercise for today, your daily meditation, if you’d like: pay attention to how your day goes and try to tally up the amount of time, effort and energy you put into asking for things you want versus the amount you put forth to help other people, meet their needs and try to make the world — or even just your tiny little corner of it — a better place.

I posit that the results will surprise you and leave you thinking about whether you’ve found the balance you need to be a happy member of society, and to be a contented part of your own village.

The Science of Getting Rich

Remember this, and never take money from anyone without giving more in use value than the money you are receiving. In people’s lives, this is one of the main causes of lack of money, unsuccessful job experiences, and failed businesses. Give more value than the money you are receiving; in your job, in your business, and in every part of your life.

May the joy be with you, Rhonda Byrne
