Five top tips to starting a successful business

The fastest way to receive is to give, because giving starts the reciprocal action of receiving. We all receive according to how much we give. Give the best of you everywhere you go. Give a smile. Give thanks. Give kindness. Give love. Your giving should be a giving without expectation of return – a giving for the sheer joy of it. May the joy be with you, Rhonda Byrne The Secret… bringing joy to billions

This message is from one of the greats in the world of successful business people Sir Richard Branson

As LinkedIn is a business that started in a living room, much like Virgin began in a basement, I thought my first blog on the site should be about how to simply start a successful business. Here are five top tips I’ve picked up over the years.

1. Listen more than you talk

Busy-more-than-one-phone_thumb3We have two ears and one mouth, using them in proportion is not a bad idea! To be a good leader you have to be a great listener. Brilliant ideas can spring from the most unlikely places, so you should always keep your ears open for some shrewd advice. This can mean following online comments as closely as board meeting notes, or asking the frontline staff for their opinions as often as the CEOs. Get out there, listen to people, draw people out and learn from them.

2. Keep it simple

You have to do something radically different to stand out in business. But nobody ever said different has to be complex. There are thousands of simple business solutions to problems out there, just waiting to be solved by the next big thing in business. Maintain a focus upon innovation, but don’t try to reinvent the wheel. A simple change for the better is far more effective than five complicated changes for the worse.

3. Take pride in your work

Believe-with-all-of-your-heart-that-[2]Last week I enjoyed my favourite night of the year, the Virgin Stars of the Year Awards, where we celebrated some of those people who have gone the extra mile for us around the Virgin world. With so many different companies, nationalities and personalities represented under one roof, it was interesting to see what qualities they all have in common. One was pride in their work, and in the company they represent. Remember your staff are your biggest brand advocates, and focusing on helping them take pride will shine through in how they treat your customers.

4. Have fun, success will follow

If you aren’t having fun, you are doing it wrong. If you feel like getting up in the morning to work on your business is a chore, then it’s time to try something else. If you are having a good time, there is a far greater chance a positive, innovative atmosphere will be nurtured and your business will flourish. A smile and a joke can go a long way, so be quick to see the lighter side of life.

5. Rip it up and start again

If you are an entrepreneur and your first venture isn’t a success, welcome to the club! Every successful businessperson has experienced a few failures along the way – the important thing is how you learn from them. Don’t allow yourself to get disheartened by a setback or two, instead dust yourself off and work out what went wrong. Then you can find the positives, analyse where you can improve, rip it up and start again.

Be a successful Business person it is what you deserve, Networking or another type of business, all is available to those who work at their ideas..

A burning desire to be and to do is the starting point from which the dreamer must take off.
Many years ago, the commencement speaker at a prestigious university asked all members of the graduating class who had a definite plan for their lives to hold up their hands. As he looked around the room, only three hands were raised. Twenty-five years later, when the class held a reunion, the combined net worth of those three individuals exceeded that of the remainder of the class. People who know where they are going, always achieve far greater levels of success than those who merely drift through life, expecting circumstances to create opportunities for them. Successful people create their own opportunities by focusing on goals with an intensity that borders on obsession. In this way, every action moves them toward their goal. Napoleon Hill

Setting and understanding GOALS

From The Secret Daily Teachings

No person or power in the outside world can compare to the power you have within you. Seek the power within, as it knows the perfect way for you.                                                                                                                           May the joy be with you.  Rhonda Byrne

Whenever you set a goal to attain something, the only thing that can hinder you from reaching it is yourself. Sometimes we are too pessimistic that we tend to limit ourselves. If you really want to achieve something, there are plenty of ways to do it but if you don’t want to achieve something, there are plenty of excuses. Bottom line, success ultimately rely on how bad you really want it.

“We act as though comfort and luxury were the chief requirements of life, when all that we need to make us really happy is something to be enthusiastic about.” Charles Kingsley

On everyone’s short list of things to do during their lifetime are the accomplishment of worthy goals and the fulfilment of one’s purpose.
Achieving a goal is like opening a combination lock. You need the correct numbers in the correct right, left, right sequence. There are thousands of possible combinations; and if you are aware of the settings but not the sequence, your efforts will prove futile.

The Ten Rules of Goal Setting is the combination that opens the lock of success. Each rule is one piece of the combination; each seamlessly integrates with the other nine; each one counts!
There is a book “Ten Rules of Goal setting” I apologise as I have lost the name of the writer! you will be hard pressed
to find a goal that does not require each of these ten rules.
Not all goals are equal, but all goals contain the same foundational elements.
When it comes to setting goals, we often don’t know what we don’t know.
And, what you don’t know can ad most likely will hurt
you by limiting or compromising your success.

Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.” Thomas Edison

Each rule calls for and requires know-how of multiple disciplines. No one is born with all the talents to achieve a goal—you learn as you go on the fly!
Everyone needs to know how to set and achieve a goal. Everyone needs an awareness of proportion and a keen sense of the possible. Everyone needs the will to pursue his or her dreams and to know what it takes to taste victory.
If I could carve ten rules for achieving a goal into the walls of your mind, they would be the ones contained in this book. The ten rules work because they are simple, and they are simple because they work.

Life is too short to waste. Dreams are fulfilled only through action, not through endless planning to take action.” David J. Schwartz

The potential for personal growth and personal expression—as well as for mind-boggling personal wealth—makes this a time of opportunity…a time to create the kind of life that previous generations could not imagine. That is why goal setting is so important.

“In order to succeed, your desire for success should be greater than your fear of failure.” Bill Cosby

Success is individual. Your definition of “the good life” may be very different from others’. Yet the underlying steps toward that end are the same. That similarity helps you to understand what success really is.

The only difference between successful people and unsuccessful people is extraordinary determination.” Mary Kay Ash

Success is the ability, first, to recognize opportunity; second, to form plans and strategies that leverage opportunity; and, third, to develop the necessary skills needed to execute those strategies.

“Remember, the thoughts that you think and the statements you make regarding yourself determine your mental attitude. If you have a worthwhile objective, find the one reason why you can achieve it rather than hundreds of reasons why you can’t.” Napoleon Hill

The ten rules, like anything else in life, operate best if they are self-enforced!
Success is beautiful because of how it looks to you, how it works, how it feels, and how it represents the fulfilment of goals pursued. Grow accustomed to prosperity and confident in the process of achieving a goal. Embrace these ten rules of goal setting and give witness to a powerful transition in your life.
My goal is simply to help you achieve yours by teaching you the correct combination and correct sequence. for the book try this persons name, should you wish to purchase it :(Gary Ryan Blair)

Know yourself! Watch how you manifest the small things in life and think about how you felt inside with those things. Think about how easily they came. You will find that you thought of a small thing once and never thought about it again, and then it manifested.     What really happened was you didn’t think any thoughts or speak any words which contradicted what you wanted, so the law of attraction was able to do its work.  May the joy be with you, – Rhonda Byrne The Secret

How to Recharge your Motivation

“Set a goal to achieve something that is so big, so exhilarating that it excites you and scares you at the same time. It must be a goal that is so appealing, so much in line with your spiritual core, that you can’t get it out of your mind. If you do not get chills when you set a goal, your not setting big enough goals.” Bob Proctor

How to Recharge Your Motivation

Sometimes, when you have so many items on your to-do list, getting anything important accomplished becomes daunting. All the menial tasks start to take up the majority of your time and, before you know it, the important things fall by the wayside. Finding the motivation to continue pursuing the things that really matter to you is not something you can just do once. Staying motivated requires taking the time to occasionally re-focus your thoughts and priorities, outline your goals, and do things that help you feel inspired and creative! The practice of recharging your motivation will help you follow through on your goals and make real progress in your life.

Re-examine your focus

Take a minute to reflect on how you currently spend your time. Sometimes, without realizing it, we can get stuck spending too much time on things that aren’t the most important to us. What are your main priorities and goals in life? I have four main commitments in my life that stem from different categories. Each day I try to spend time with my family, working, exercising, and being spiritual. Too frequently, I notice that one area has started to slip and I again need to revisit how I spend my time and allocate more or less time to certain areas.

Get inspired

When you have a big goal that might take some time to accomplish, it’s important to continue to inspire yourself. Spend time in environments that help you feel creative and motivated! Whether you feel inspired walking around the city, getting lost in the library, spending a day at the beach or in the mountains, or even just

talking with people who have accomplished what you’re striving for, make sure you spend time inspiring and motivating yourself to continue pursuing your goals.

Create an end goal

If you’ve noticed that you’ve been less motivated to achieve one of your goals or stick to a priority in your life, figure out what motivates you in that area. For some people, they need to have an “end” in their mind, something to work towards. For example, if you’re a runner, but you can’t find the motivation to hit the trail, you might consider signing up for a race in 3-6 months. With the end goal of the race, you’ll be more motivated to get up and run each day. Whatever your goal is, find something that motivates you to continue working toward it.

Examine your progress

When you’re working toward a goal, a great motivator can be to examine how far you’ve already come. If your goal is to be fluent in Spanish, reflect on how much you’ve learned so far. Maybe now you can have a small conversation in Spanish and understand even more. Take notes of your progress and track how much you’ve improved. The ability to track your progress will help you see that all your hard work is paying off and inspire you to continue.

“Of course motivation is not permanent. But then, neither is bathing; but it is something you should do on a regular basis.” – Zig Ziglar

When weeds come up in your garden, it does no good to say, ‘There are no weeds, there are no weeds, there are no weeds…’ It doesn’t help to pretend they’re not there. It doesn’t matter how much you focus on the beautiful plants that are growing. The weeds aren’t going to disappear until you get on your hands and knees and pull them out. – In your own life, you can’t just ‘focus on the positive, focus on the positive, focus on the positive’, and expect your problems to go away. If there are some weeds, you have to deal with them.”    Bob Proctor

Connecting with people is an incredible skill as you connect first in their world because that is where they live their lives and where their interests and values lie  Doug Firebough

A quick decision usually denotes an alert mind.
Successful people are decisive. They don’t agonize over decisions and thereby miss out on a great opportunity. They gather the relevant information, discuss alternatives with advisers whose opinions they respect, and then make a decision and get on with it. Indecision creates the worst kind of paralysis and, left unattended, can permanently damage you and your organization. If you have trouble making decisions, remember that there are few decisions that are irreversible. If you later discover that you were wrong, correct your course and move on. – Napoleon Hill

Motivation is said to be an inside job, actually it is an inside career for very successful people Doug Firebough

All enduring success is founded upon harmonious human relationships.
Most of us are incapable of “going it alone.” Whether it is in our careers, our personal relationships, or in life, we all need others if we are to achieve the level of success we desire. Besides, what’s the point of having it all if we have no one we care about to share it? You may choose to work with others, you may ignore them, or you may choose to work against them, but the greatest successes in life come to those who work harmoniously with others. When your personal goals coincide with those of another, not only does the power of your combined labours benefit you, but such cooperation also creates a synergistic effect that allows you to achieve far more than the simple sum of your individual efforts. Know that friendship freely given and gratefully received is one of life’s greatest gifts. – Napoleon Hill

Do you Really Care

If I had to select one quality, one personal characteristic that I regard as being most highly correlated with success, whatever the field, I would pick the trait of persistence.” Richard DeVos

Care more than you need to, more often than expected, more completely than the other person and without expectation of recognition.

No one reports liking Steve Jobs very much, yet he was as embraced as any businessperson since Walt Disney. Because he cared. He cared deeply about what he was making and how it would be used. Of course, he didn’t just care in a general, amorphous, whiny way, he cared and then actually delivered.

Money in had_thumb[2]Politicians are held in astonishingly low esteem. Congress in particular is setting record lows, but it’s an endemic problem. The reason? They consistently act as if they don’t care. They don’t care about their peers, certainly, and by their actions, apparently, they don’t care about us. Money first.

Graph 2 men sales_thumb[6]Many salespeople face a similar problem–perhaps because for years they’ve used a shallow version of caring as a marketing technique to boost their commissions. One report by the National Association of Realtors found that more than 90% of all homeowners are never again contacted by their real estate agent after the contracts for the home are signed. Why bother… there’s no money in it, just the possibility of complaints. Well, the reason is obvious–you’d come by with cookies and intros to the neighbours if you cared.

goals ladder above house_thumb[9]Economists tell us that the reason to care is that it increases customer retention, profitability and brand value. For me, though, that’s beside the point (and even counter to the real goal). Caring gives you a compass, a direction to head and most of all, a reason to do the work you do in the first place.

Care More.

helping hand_thumb[3]It’s only two words, but it’s hard to think of a better mantra for the organization that is smart enough to understand the core underpinning of their business, as well as one in search of a reason for being. No need to get all tied up in sub cycles of this leads to this which leads to that so therefore I care… Instead, there’s the opportunity to follow the direct and difficult road of someone who truly cares about what’s being made and who it is for.

My philosophy of life is that if we make up our mind what we are going to make of our lives, then work hard toward that goal, we never lose – somehow we win out.” Ronald Reagan 40th President of the United States

“Don’t let others define you. Don’t let the past confine you. Take charge of your life with confidence and determination and there are no limits on what you can do or be.” Michael Josephson”
